"Bee Monkey Diagram" was composed by Shen Quan in the Qing Dynasty.

Shen Quan (1682-1760), also spelled Hengzhi, was a Qing Dynasty painter from Xinshi Town, Deqing County, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province (a work of Wuxing (now Wuxing District, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province).

When he was young, his family was poor, and he learned to tie paper flowers with his father. Around the age of 20, he engaged in painting and made a living from it. His painting was far away from the Huang Zhen school, close to the Ming Dynasty Lü Ji, who wrote flowers and feathers and walking animals, and was known for his precision and beauty, and was also good at painting ladies.

Shen Quan's paintings mainly inherit the exquisite and rich painting methods of the Huang Zhen school, and integrate a variety of painting techniques to form their own painting appearance.

His paintings of flowers, birds and animals had a significant influence on later generations, especially on Japanese painting. This painting, painted in 1742, when Shen Quan was sixty-one years old, is a masterpiece of his painting style when his painting style was mature.

This picture shows a monkey poking a honeycomb in a tree, and two monkeys watching under a tree, and the plot is tense and funny. The bees and monkeys depicted are consonant for "fenghou". Hou is an ancient title, the second class of the fifth class, which was still used until the Qing Dynasty. "Etiquette and The Royal System": "The king's system of Lu Jue, duke, marquis, uncle, son, male." ”

This kind of painting with auspicious meaning and blessing is Shen Quan's particular favorite subject. The monkey painting method is exquisite and vivid, and the self-knowledge mentions that it is imitating the brushwork of Yi Yuanji, the master of the Song Dynasty painting ape. The background mountain stone is more extensive, the moss is first used with ink dots and then stone green, and the leaves are mostly used by the leaf sandwich method, and then painted with white or light color.

The whole painting combines brushwork and freehand, and the color and ink match, which has the unique style of Shen Quan's painting.
