Cen Lan:

This heavy honor is not only an encouragement, but also a spur. I have only done some small things that should be done in ordinary posts and in the practice of serving the masses, and I am still far from the requirements and expectations of the party and the people, and I still need to make unremitting efforts. China Literature and Art Network: As a literary and art worker in the new era, how do you view the "virtue and art double xin"?

General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed that literary and art workers should stress taste, emphasize art and morality, save righteousness for history, promote virtue for the world, and strive to win the love and welcome of the people with noble professional ethics, good social image, and excellent works of both literary quality and beauty. As a literary and artistic worker in the new era, I believe that virtue and art are the fundamental criteria for excellent artists. China Literature and Art Network: Over the years, you have actively participated in social welfare undertakings, with faith, feelings and responsibility, please talk about your experience and feelings in this regard?

I grew up in the countryside, and the hardships of life made me understand compassion; often in my most difficult times, I was cared for by well-meaning people, which made me understand gratitude. Now, as a party literary and art worker and calligrapher, doing a little thing for the society and the masses is a matter of course in itself. I have been working at the grassroots level for a long time, getting along with the masses day and night, I know them, some of the masses are facing poverty due to disasters and illnesses, some are difficult due to severe disabilities and lack of labor, some are worried about their children going to college, some want to develop and lack of funds, etc. These problems I see in my eyes and are anxious, I think their difficulties are my difficulties, I should do something for them, so I will give full play to the strength of calligraphy to carry out poverty alleviation and charity sales to help them, naturally very happy, there is no intention. To this end, I wrote a letter of encouragement: "Benevolence is like three spring rains, and good deeds are like asking for an inch of grace."

China Literature and Art Network: Measuring the literary and artistic achievements of an era ultimately depends on the works. In the new era, can you talk about how to create excellent calligraphy works that "have both art and literature" and "both literary quality and beauty"?

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that to measure the literary and artistic achievements of an era, we must ultimately look at the works, and the measure of the life value of writers and artists also depends on the works. As a calligrapher, creating excellent calligraphy works with "both art and literature" and "both literary quality and beauty" is the need of the times, the expectation of the people, and the artistic ideal that individuals unremittingly pursue. As far as the art of calligraphy is concerned, I believe that we should examine and strive from the following aspects:

The first is to enter the ancient world with a strong foundation. It is to take root in the vast tradition of calligraphy, extract essence, absorb nutrition, and practice exquisite skills, which is the requirement of calligraphy itself and the fundamental way to forge "ancient quality". Without deep roots in tradition, i.e., non-calligraphy, without immersion in traditional learning, all innovation and creation are in vain.

The second is innovation to development. All art, only innovation has vitality, follow the old, stick to the tradition there is no way out. Innovation is the creation of technology and the depth of thought. Of course, innovation and creation are not achieved overnight, and the innovation of calligraphy is a gradual evolution, which needs to be accumulated, creative transformation and innovative development. Calligraphers in the new era must consciously pursue the elegant calligraphy style of the Chia Tai weather, and must not violate the law of calligraphy development to engage in strange and ugly so-called creations.

The third is to accumulate learning to nourish qi. Calligraphy is a collection of philology, philosophy, aesthetics, literature, examination of evidence equal to a comprehensive art, a true calligrapher needs to have a more comprehensive comprehensive literacy, to have philosophical thinking, to have a literary heart, in the immersion of China's excellent traditional culture to cultivate the character of life, enhance the ideological realm, moral cultivation, the so-called literary quality, and then gentleman.

I will take this as a new starting point, and in my future work, I will conscientiously study and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the opening ceremony of the Eleventh National Congress of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Tenth National Congress of the China Writers Association, consciously practice the original mission of literary and art workers in the new era, and live up to the glorious title of both virtue and art.
