Cyberspace Administration of China: 12 leading Internet companies have increased their employment by nearly 80,000 people in the past six months

On April 8, the Cyberspace Administration of China released a message saying that the number of workers employed by Internet companies has remained stable in the past six months, and the total number of employees employed by enterprises has increased steadily. Eleven of the 12 large Internet companies surveyed by the Cyberspace Administration of China have more recruits than they have left.

Nandu reporter learned from BoSS direct recruitment that the recruitment scale of the Internet industry still maintains growth, but the year-on-year growth rate of 13% is at the low point since 2019, and the intensity of job search is higher than in previous years.

11 companies recruited more people than left

Recently, a number of large Internet companies have carried out large-scale layoffs and triggered heated discussions in public opinion. In this regard, China Netinfo interviewed 12 Internet companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, Meituan, and JD.com about their employment and business development. Enterprises have said that the flow of personnel in the Internet industry is generally faster, and the current number of employees and business development are generally stable, and they are full of confidence in future development.

According to the Cyberspace Administration of China, the main business of various Internet enterprises has been steadily carried out, some new businesses have grown strongly, and the scale of revenue has repeatedly reached new highs. At the same time, the total amount of employment in enterprises has increased steadily. According to statistics, from July 2021 to mid-March 2022, Tencent, Alibaba, ByteDance, Meituan, Pinduoduo, Kuaishou, Baidu, JD.com, NetEase, Weibo, Bilibili, Ant Group and other 12 companies have a total of 216,800 departures, a total recruitment of 295,900 people, and a net increase of 79,100 people, of which 11 companies recruit more than the number of departures.

Among them, Tencent said that thanks to the steady growth of the mainland economy, the company's business maintained a stable growth trend, and its operating income in 2021 increased by 16.2% year-on-year. At the same time, the scale of personnel continues to expand, and by the end of 2021, the company has 112,800 employees, an increase of 31.3% year-on-year. This year, we will continue to introduce core scientific and technological personnel and outstanding fresh graduates, and it is expected that the total number of employees will continue to increase.

Meituan reported that in 2021, the company's operating income increased by 56% year-on-year. By the end of 2021, the number of Meituan trading users increased by 35.2% year-on-year, and the number of active merchants increased by 29.2% year-on-year. With the expansion of business, the company's business lines and functional lines such as store-to-store, home-based, online ride-hailing, and cycling have all increased to a certain extent. Since July last year, the net increase in employees has increased by 17,000 people, and this year we will continue to promote the recruitment plan for fresh graduates.

Business optimization and adjustment, post personnel increase and decrease

Behind the personnel changes, major Internet companies are adjusting their business to cope with changes in the internal and external environment. According to a survey conducted by the Cyberspace Administration of China, many enterprises have considered market competition, input and output and long-term development, while making the main business bigger and stronger, adjusting and optimizing some businesses, and the corresponding post personnel have decreased and increased, but the total number of employees has remained stable and rising.

Among them, Weibo Company said that according to the needs of business development, the company has recently optimized the reduction of loss-making business, while expanding the scale of content-related personnel and maintaining the stability of personnel in other sectors, and it is expected that the total number of employees this year will increase on the basis of last year.

Due to the changes in the business situation, JD Group chose to focus on the main business, focus on supply chain and other businesses, continue to increase the recruitment of outstanding talents, and make certain adjustments to the exploratory business, involving some employees, but the number of employees of the Group remained stable overall.

Beijing ByteDance said that in the second half of last year, the company eliminated some business departments and optimized and adjusted some line positions, but in the same period, the company increased the recruitment of content quality, technology, operation and other aspects, and the total number of employees has increased since last year.

In addition, Baidu Group has adjusted the strategy of some business organizations, focusing on increasing investment in personnel and technology for intelligent clouds, chips, and autonomous driving, and investing 22.1 billion yuan in research and development in related fields in 2021. Baidu Group said that at present, the company has achieved significant advantages in key technical fields such as autonomous driving, intelligent transportation, machine translation, and flying propeller deep learning framework, and the number of employees is generally stable.

Alibaba Group said that although the external environment has changed and the development of enterprises is facing new challenges, the group has taken the initiative to embrace changes to adjust its business, actively adapt to the new environment, focus on key areas and customer value, and use more effective supply to better serve users. In order to attract and retain talents, the Group upgraded its employee welfare program, set up transportation subsidies, and piloted the flexible office system, adding more than 9,000 employees to its core business in the past year.

In addition, Ant Group continues to make efforts in the direction of digital technology and globalization, providing more abundant digital payment solutions, and helping the digital transformation of traditional industries through technology and model innovation. The Group attaches great importance to the introduction and training of talents, and adopts a variety of measures to improve employee welfare, strengthen talent skills training, expand talent development space, attract and retain talents, and the number of employees is generally stable, with a slight increase in personnel.

The recruitment scale of the Internet industry increased by 13% year-on-year

BOSS direct recruitment data shows that the scale of Internet recruitment this spring still maintains growth, at the same time, the talent competition in the Internet industry is also intensifying. The "2022 Spring Job Market Trend Observation" (hereinafter referred to as the "Observation") recently released by the BOSS Direct Employment Research Institute pointed out that due to the impact of policy regulation in 2021, the rapid expansion of the Internet industry began to cool down. In the spring of 2022, the recruitment scale of the Internet industry still maintained growth, with a year-on-year growth rate of 13%, at the lowest point since 2019, while the intensity of job search was higher than in previous years.

However, there are clear differences in job competition between different job types. On the whole, the core technology and product positions still maintain a relatively dense demand for talents, and the demand for talents in the main Internet technology directions has increased. Among them, the job recruitment demand in the direction of artificial intelligence has the highest year-on-year increase of 87.7%, which is close to twice the 44.2% growth level of the second large data direction. Competition for job seekers in operations and sales positions has intensified significantly.
