According to Business Korea, 3M Belgium's semiconductor coolant plant was forced to shut down indefinitely due to tighter local environmental regulations.
The measure was taken on March 8, when 3M issued a formal notice to its customers, including Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, TSMC and Intel.
It is worth mentioning that the plant accounts for 80% of the global semiconductor coolant production, and coolant is essential for semiconductor etching.
There is no doubt that the closure of 3M Belgium's semiconductor coolant plant will impact the production plans of chip manufacturers such as Samsung, SK Hynix, TSMC, and Intel.
In addition, the above report also said that the current customer (coolant) inventory of 3M company can support 1-3 months. Unless this situation is resolved in the meantime, global manufacturing could face a huge shock.
In response to this matter, TSMC, UMC and world advanced foundries have responded, emphasizing that they have filed records in their hands and will not affect the production plan.
The above supply chain pointed out that in the semiconductor manufacturing supply chain, whether it is the chemical gases and liquids used in the dry and wet processes, suppliers in addition to Europe, Japan, South Korea and other places have, and the production supply chain inventory in Taiwan has at least a few months, which is not affected by this incident.
