How rich was a house 3500 years ago? "Deep" grill!

For our Chinese, the house is not only a place to live, but also a symbol of the family.

What does the mansion in your heart look like? First-line river view room or luxurious large flat floor?

Compared with the "mansion" of Panlong City 3500 years ago, this is nothing.........

3500 years ago, the "mansion" of the nobles of Panlong City

The ruins of Panlong City are the site of a city in the early Shang Dynasty with the clearest known layout and richest ruins in the Yangtze River Basin, with a history of 3500 years.

Come to Panlong city national archaeological site park (No. 1 Panlong Avenue, Huangpi District, Wuhan City), and in the northeast corner of the Palace District, you can see the restored palace base site. At first glance, it seems to be a bit unremarkable, only the ruins of the broken wall, and the area does not seem to be particularly large. However, the "previous life" of this "unremarkable" building is the "mansion" of the nobles of Panlong City 3500 years ago.

Why the palace was built in the northeast of Miyagi District

Many palaces in ancient times were built on the central axis. Curiously, the location of the palace at the site of Panlong City is in the entire northeast of Miyagi City.

Guess why? Presumably, there may be three reasons:

The concept of the central axis appeared later in the ancient city, and it is generally believed that the Xia, Shang, and Three Dynasties periods did not exist.

Choose the northeast corner to build a palace, because this is the highest part of the city, you can control the whole city and facilitate the drainage of the palace area.

The northeast was chosen because of a matter of faith. The Shang Dynasty people are more reverent of the northeast orientation, for example, many Shang Dynasty tombs are northeast orientation.

The originator of "sleeping forward and backward"

Work breaks are fine

Archaeologists excavated two palaces in the Palace District of Panlong City:

To the north is the site of the No. 1 palace building excavated in 1974. The plan is rectangular in shape, surrounded by a cloister surrounded by 44 large cornices, with a large palace building juxtaposed with four chambers. The palace is divided into 4 rooms separated by mud walls, each room has a front door, and the middle two rooms each have a back door and eight windows, which is most likely the "back bed" where the high-ranking nobles rest at home. In other words, the northern palace exists as a "rest area".

To the south is the site of the Building No. 2 excavated in 1976. The base site of the second palace is a large hall for the ruler of Panlong City to discuss the government, that is, the "office", and the southern palace is the "work area" at that time.

The two palaces are arranged in a north-south axis, facing forward and backward, with a reasonable layout and a regular structure. Therefore, the current academic community believes that this is likely to be the "originator" of the customized "front and back sleeping" layout of Chinese palace architecture in previous dynasties.

Sewer pipes installed 3500 years ago?

The ancient mansion that blew up, where is the hao? It is hard to imagine, because the construction technology at that time could be so advanced. The palace wall adopts the "wooden bone mud wall" method, that is, the base groove is dug first, the wooden pillar is erected, and then the wooden pillar is fixed with bamboo pieces, and then the mud wall is built between the wooden pillars.

According to research, the roof of the Panlong City Palace is a "four heavy houses" structure. "Four A" means that the roof has four slopes. "Heavy house" means having a double eaves. Guess what is the purpose of the structure of this "four heavy houses"?

A. The roof slopes on all four sides to facilitate the rainwater to flow down from all sides.

B. This is not only conducive to ventilation and sunlight, but also can effectively protect the rammed earth platform, cornice and earthen wall.

C. The appearance of this structure house overlaps and is lofty and solemn, thus highlighting the noble and supreme status of the owner.

Answer: ABC

Under the eaves, there is a loose water, and there are 11 ceramic drainage pipes next to the wall. It is hard to imagine that the ancients built houses 3500 years ago and had such experience in building drainage.

Panlong City Ruins Museum

The Panlong City Ruins Museum is composed of two parts: the site museum and the core area of the site.

Panlong City Ruins Museum is a national key cultural relics protection unit, which is the first discovery of early Shang Dynasty urban ruins in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in mainland China, and one of the best preserved city sites in the same period discovered in mainland China so far.

It is famous at home and abroad for its rich cultural connotations and the remains of city walls exposed above the ground, known as the "root of Wuhan City", and will be included in the list of national sites during the "14th Five-Year Plan" period in 2021.
