Wang Zengqi, who writes about food, is really amazing. It is no exaggeration to say that some articles I have read twenty or thirty times, and when I see that the previous sentence can recite the next sentence, I still don't feel bored, and every reread can be hooked. I personally feel that one of the characteristics of Wang Zengqi's writing about food is that it is approachable, the feeling is very sincere, and the description can accurately grasp the most attractive points, so it is easy to imagine without piling up rhetoric, even if you have not eaten it, you can feel delicious.
The first half of the book is a travel and travel essay, the second half is a food essay, I kindly recommend that you prepare some snacks when reading the second half of the book.

The book focuses on Liang Shiqiu's essays on food. It is characterized by good writing, and profound knowledge, encounter what to eat can be quoted back to eight generations, write when this dish originated, which restaurant did the best, where other restaurants are a little worse...
The only minor drawback may be that there is more "sophisticated" part, and it seems to be less boring to read. But flaws are not hidden, it is a very wonderful food prose.
There are many versions and are not recommended.

It's quite famous, and I don't need to introduce it more. The article is short and not difficult, and the high school ancient language level is more than enough, which is very interesting to read.
However, after all, it is classified by ingredients, each article is short, if you read dozens of fish menus in one breath, it is easy to produce a little fatigue. My personal advice is to pick up the fragments every day and read a little bit of it is good.
There are many editions, and I personally recommend the version of Zhonghua Bookstore.

Although the writing is slightly inferior to that of Wang Zengqi and Liang Shiqiu, who are really literary masters, this book is more knowledgeable and varied, and it is written on the side, especially involving many foreign dishes, ingredients and unique practices. However, a long list of foreign languages and even Latin names cannot be imagined at all, and it is not very salivating to read, and it can only be said that the two cannot be combined.
If you have readers who understand the food culture of Japan, Europe and the United States, the reading experience of this book is probably better than mine.

Lin Jinlan also has several essays on food, and in my personal evaluation, his prose is on par with Wang Zengqi' style, and his style seems to be more unique and ethereal.
Unfortunately, there seems to be no integrated Lin Jinlan's food essay on the market to produce a book (if there is, please tell me thank you very much!). It can only be scattered in anthologies, but of all his essays, food essays are actually only a small part.
Therefore, if you are only interested in gastronomic essays, it is not recommended to buy an essay collection for these articles. But I personally think that Lin Jinlan's other prose works are also excellent, and I have not lost money in reading.

The author is an old Shanghainese, and the biggest advantage of this book is that it is very well written about Shanghai folklore and street food, with many rich and vivid details of life, smooth writing, and detailed details.
But on the other hand, there is always some grease of middle-aged male writers between the lines, which makes it a bit chicken ribs, and it feels a pity to abandon it.
If you're particularly interested in regional street food, this book is worth reading.

This collection of essays includes essays on gastronomic themes from different authors.
While this format is bound to result in uneven quality of articles, the gap between the articles included in this book is so large that it has stunned me. There are a few articles that are meant to be called recipes.
I personally don't recommend this book, although the excellent work in it is indeed excellent, but there are also many articles that make people feel that it is too much to lose money to buy it.
