Literature has always been closely related to the campus. Outstanding writers such as Mo Yan, Yu Hua, Ah Lai, and Su Tong have all been writers-in-residence. Founded in 1936, the University of Iowa Writers' Workshop is a great story in the history of world literature. On the morning of March 25, 2022, at the second plenary session of the Ninth Session of the Sichuan Writers Association, Hou Zhiming, secretary of the party group and executive vice chairman of the Sichuan Writers Association, made a report to the conference. In the subsequent group meeting, Hou Zhiming specifically mentioned the "Literature + Campus" plan - the establishment of the writer-in-residence system of Sichuan University of the Provincial Writers Association, which will begin to be implemented this year. "At present, the plan is to select two writers, one novel writer and one poetry writer, to go to Sichuan University to become a writer-in-residence."
As vice chairman of the China Writers Association and chairman of the Sichuan Writers Association, Ah Lai mentioned at the conference that it is very natural for the Sichuan Writers Association to establish contacts with colleges and universities, because most of the writers and talents will be educated in colleges and universities, which is an important source of new blood in literature.
Li Yi, dean of the School of Literature and Journalism of Sichuan University, introduced that according to the current plan, the residency cycle is one year, and Sichuan University accepts two writers-in-residence recommended by the Sichuan Writers Association every year, and co-sponsors the "Resident Creation Workshop" with the Provincial Writers Association. "This is the first case of a university in western China."
At that time, a seminar on the works of writers-in-residence will be held, and at least one seminar of writers-in-residence will be held every semester to promote the exchange between writers and scholars, to discuss writers' works in depth, to discuss writing methods extensively, to explore the spirit of literature in depth, to share writing experience and creative feelings, and to achieve zero-distance exchanges between writers and universities. After that, the results of rich cultural activities such as workshops, seminars, lecture halls and "dialogues" will be collated and published into books.
