The author recently conducted an interview with middle school students, and many students said that they felt very novel, and they liked to use AI to write homework, and that homework that used to take a lot of time to complete can be answered in seconds with AI.
Zhang, a second-year junior high school student in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, said that he used AI to consult historical materials and write essays. Especially the composition, it is very simple, as soon as the question is asked to give it, the AI is very obedient and writes an essay, and the teacher can't see it.
Wang, a sophomore in Nanyang High School in Henan Province, said that discovering an AI homework helper is like discovering a new continent, but if you think of it every time you write an essay, you will have a sense of dependence.
Li, a sophomore in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, said that AI cannot be used for a long time, and after using it for a period of time, he found that his independent thinking ability became worse and worse, and his language scores also declined, and the actual help of AI in his learning was not satisfactory. I am a Chinese teacher, and I have a few thoughts on this matter:
First, AI is a double-edged sword.
AI is a tool, like a double-edged sword, the key is how to use it, use it well, use it well, and use it badly, you may hurt yourself. Therefore, it cannot simply be said that it is good or bad.
Second, AI cannot be used as a substitute for exams.
I agree with the view of the professor at Peking University that college students can be encouraged to use AI tools, which will be helpful for searching for knowledge, exploring knowledge, and saving time and costs.
However, it cannot be used as a substitute for exams, and the mainland's draft degree law clearly stipulates that AI writing is academic misconduct, and if it is found, the degree may be revoked.
Some universities have also issued a clear notice to graduates, in addition to plagiarism checking, AI detection functions will also be added to graduation theses, in order to pay attention to the quality of graduation theses.
Third, students' use of AI is equivalent to plagiarizing assignments.
For school students, I don't approve of using AI to write homework, many children use AI just to search for answers, which is essentially a kind of plagiarism and cheating.
Fourth, don't let AI become a "lazy artifact".
Before AI, all kinds of question search software appeared on the Internet, and students turned on their mobile phone cameras to "take pictures of the answers" when they encountered problems, but they were "exposed" when they came to the exam. If AI degenerates into question search software, it will never be a good thing.
Fifth, AI is useful as a tool that can be widely used by adults, but not by schools.
Because in school, the purpose of assignments is not to produce valuable content or be efficient, the purpose is to learn how to read, write, and express yourself. With AI, students may learn how to use a tool, but without it, students won't be able to communicate and understand.
Students are learning knowledge, do not need to save time in learning, and do not need to produce value and efficiency, the purpose is to master and use knowledge, if all handed over to AI, become a part of the student's brain, then, the student's brain will "atrophy", can not think independently, understand the problem, that is more than worth the loss.
Therefore, teachers and parents should urge students to complete their homework independently, and not use "question search software" and AI, learning needs to be diligent, and laziness will eventually harm themselves.
