Up to now, the mainland has successfully launched a total of 19 Fengyun meteorological satellites of the "two generations and four types". Among them, Fengyun-1 and Fengyun-3 belong to polar-orbiting satellites, which fly around the earth through the north and south poles and can make global observations; Fengyun-2 and Fengyun-4 are geostationary satellites, which are always relatively stationary with the ground for meteorological detection of the mainland and surrounding areas.

Participating in the "FourteenTh Luck" meteorological service is also known as the "Dawn Star" Fengyun-3 E star: it observes at morning and dusk, which can make up for the gap in satellite observation data in the 6-hour assimilation window of global numerical weather prediction, and effectively improve the accuracy and timeliness of weather forecasting; the low-light observation equipment it carries can also "see" the wind and clouds on the earth in the case of insufficient light; the solar omnipotent spectrum observatory it carries can realize the omnipotent spectrum observation of the coronal layer. This is the external structure of the Sun that has the most direct impact on the Earth's environment and will provide scientists with more comprehensive information on the causes of changes in Earth's climate and weather.

It is reported that before 2035, the mainland will build a third-generation Fengyun meteorological satellite integrated observation system to achieve satellite-interstellar collaborative intelligent observation, and the global observation data acquisition and processing time will reach less than 1 hour. "The third generation of meteorological satellites will achieve accurate forecasting, meet the needs of all-factor and refined meteorological observation, and play a leading role in meteorological forecasting, climate prediction, atmospheric chemistry, ecological environment monitoring, and disaster prevention and mitigation."
