Apple executives discuss Mac Studio desktop computers: small but powerful

IT Home March 18 news, according to MacRumors reported that Apple's new Mac Studio desktop computer has officially launched and began to reach customers. Before going public, three senior Apple employees were interviewed to reveal how Apple designed the Mac Studio.

Like the Mac Pro tower, which was released at the end of 2019, mac Studio was born as a result of Apple's Pro Professional Workflow team, which was founded shortly after the company apologized to professional users and ensured it continued to work on the Mac.

"We really value the essence of Mac Studio, which is a whole new line of Mac products," said Tom Boger, Vice President of Mac and iPad Product Marketing at Apple. "Our philosophy wasn't to scale up the Mac mini at all, but we knew we were working on this M1 chip, and we wanted to bring it to users who needed performance, conductivity and modularity. Let's put it on people's desks so it's easily accessible. ”

Xander Soren, director of product marketing for Apple's Pro Pro Professional Applications team, said creative and professional users have made it clear that they want a so-called "modular" system that sits between iMac and Mac Pro devices in Apple's desktop lineup.

"I think the way to look at it is that we're happy to offer users multiple ways of working," Boger added. So you decide to buy a MacBook Pro with an M1 Max chip, and you can have a setting in the studio that moves the MacBook Pro back and forth. If that's how you choose to work, that's great. However, we also have users who like to get a desktop that is always on their desk. ”

Apple said it listened to feedback from customers to decide which ports to offer on Mac Studio, and the team designed the chassis to ensure that all of these ports were convenient to use on both the front and rear of the device.

"We set up the IO in the front, and even if you need to go to the back, you just have to turn it around," Boger says. "It's lighter; it's very small; it fits under most monitors and is only 3.7 inches tall. We really give our users something they never had before. They always have to make trade-offs. If I want a smaller computer, I have to compromise on performance. And what we want to do is give people something so you don't have to struggle with it. ”

Shelly Goldberg, senior director of product design for Mac and iPad at Apple, said Mac Studio was an interesting challenge to incorporate the power of the M1 Ultra chip into a more compact form factor and optimal thermal management.

Goldberg said: "... The team ran hundreds of thermal simulations of the airflow to try to figure out the optimal airflow pattern through the system to try to optimize performance and acoustics, and finally, we came up with a design where the inlet at the bottom enters through more than 2,000 machined holes, all of which are machined at [specific] angles that rotate when you go around the perimeter. ”

As for the Studio Display display, Boger says, Apple's goal is to "provide all of our Mac users with a great, very convenient, very mainstream display."

"If you want to connect to a MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, Mac Studio, Mac Pro, and so on, this is a great display," Boger says. "We knew there were still users using Intel-based Macs, so we put the A13 out there to process the audio for spatial audio, so the magic of centering portraits happened."

Notably, many reviewers found studio Display's webcam quality unsatisfactory, leading Apple to issue a statement saying it would make unspecified improvements in future software updates. However, no updated time frame is provided.
