Recently, the China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) released the 49th Statistical Report on the Development of China's Internet Network, summarizing the latest data as of December 2021. Among them, several sets of data on the mobile Internet are worth savoring.
The report mentioned that the average mainland netizen spends 28.5 hours a week online.
Divided equally to 7 days a week, each person has to stay online for more than 4 hours a day. Do a simple arithmetic problem, 24 hours a day, minus 8 hours of sleep, 3 hours of eating, and the few precious time left, people have to spend more than a third of it on the Internet. "Holding the phone" is the most popular way of "surfing the Web" for the vast majority of people.
According to the report data, the scale of mainland Internet users is 1.032 billion, the scale of mobile phone Internet users is 1.029 billion, and the proportion of internet users using mobile phones to access the Internet is as high as 99.7%.
This means that fewer than 1 in 100 people choose to use other means of accessing the Internet than mobile phones. Mobile phones have become the most important Internet channel for Chinese.
In addition, the proportion of desktop computers, laptops, televisions and tablets using the Internet was 35.0%, 33.0%, 28.1% and 27.4% respectively. Among them, the growth of tablet computers is the most fierce, with a momentum of nearly 20% directly approaching the TV, in contrast, although desktop computers are second only to mobile phones, but lack of stamina, the growth rate is significantly slowed down, and it is about to be overtaken by laptops.
In the past, desktop computers were the only way to access the network. Now, the new trend of "new new human beings" is whistling, non-portable desktop computers no longer occupy the mainstream, and people's Internet access has become more and more diversified, mobile, convenient and humane.
There is a bright data in the report that attracted our attention: in 2021, mobile Internet access traffic reached 221.6 billion GB, an increase of 33.8% over the previous year, compared with 35.7% in the previous year, and 71.6% in 2018.
Mobile access traffic gradually "overflowed" and maintained a high-intensity growth trend. In 2021, it was a full 800% increase compared to 2017. We have to ask, what mystery is behind this?
The report data shows that among the steady and increasing mobile phone users, the number of 5G mobile phone users has expanded rapidly. As of December 2021, the total number of mobile phone subscribers reached 1.643 billion, of which 5G mobile phone subscribers reached 355 million.
First of all, we need to find out, what does 5G technology mean for mobile phone users?
High speed: In theory, the peak transmission speed of 5G networks can reach 10Gb per second, which is hundreds of times that of 4G networks. It only takes 1 second to download a 1GB Ultra HD movie over a 5G network.

In fact, at the end of 2020, China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom have just obtained 5G medium and low frequency band frequency use licenses. Despite being a "newborn", 5G mobile phone shipments account for an increasing proportion of total mobile phone shipments. In 2021, domestic mobile phone shipments reached 351 million, of which 5G mobile phone shipments were 266 million, an increase of 63.5% over December 2020, accounting for 75.9% of mobile phone shipments in the same period.
The mobile network is getting faster and faster, and the sense of Internet experience is naturally getting better and better. But to our surprise, the number of apps has shown a decreasing trend after 2018.
The report pointed out that as of December 2021, the scale of mainland Internet users was 1.032 billion, an increase of 42.96 million from the same period last year, while the number of app monitored in the domestic market decreased by 27% year-on-year, leaving only 2.52 million.
From this, it is speculated that perhaps the barbaric outlet of APP growth has passed. After netizen screening, big waves of sand and sand, the high-quality APP that has been adhered to has higher user stickiness and longer-term development.
