Cao Yu's masterpiece "Sunrise" was called "the best harvest in the new Chinese literary movement" by Ba Jin. From April 7th to 10th, the stage version of "Sunrise", adapted by the famous dancer Venus, will be staged in Shanghai Cultural Square, and the 2022 national tour will begin.

Speaking about the adaptation of "Sunrise", Venus said: "This is a story that Chinese knows, and the key is how to present and how to express it. The charm of the stage is that it is a space for the creator to express and a space for communicating with the audience. In this edition of Sunrise, the addition of modern dance opens up a new path for "presentation", giving the audience an extraordinary aesthetic experience with a more modern texture.
The story of "Sunrise" is a four-act play composed of dawn, dusk, midnight and sunrise. When the curtain lifted, the modern dancers of the Venus Dance Company fished in. The modern dance performance throughout the play makes up for the narrative blank with delicate body language, lights up the variation of the plot with a flexible and graceful dance posture, and creates a multi-dimensional "sunrise world" together with the dramatic performance. Wan Fang, Cao Yu's daughter, believes: "The factor of adding modern dance makes "Sunrise" and today's people's fate, life, and life perception have a stronger connection. ”
Echoing the addition of modern dance elements, the Venus version of "Sunrise" has also made great efforts in stage design. The sloping smooth slope extends to the canopy, and the diagonal staircase splits it in two. Beneath the slopes, crumbling wooden horses and mountains of books are a metaphor for the difficult survival of the people in the play. Whether it is to climb the stairs or go down the trend, it is like a long life.
The two roles are divided into two roles to interpret the contrasting life
"Sunrise" takes the life of the protagonist Chen Bailu, a social flower of high society, as a clue, and tells the alienation of people from all walks of life in the urban life of the 1930s under the influence of money and power. But in the eyes of Venus, this story is not a big heroine drama in the traditional sense, but a social group portrait. She told the actors: "There are no face-making characters in this play, and each of us finds a reason for the survival and a way to exist for the characters in the play. ”
In addition to the director, Venus also played the two roles of Chen Bailu and CuiXi in the play. Chen Bailu, who is arrogant but helplessly degenerate, and Cuixi, who is in the mud but has a golden heart, seem to be two female figures with huge contrasts, but there is a certain similarity in behavior in the pursuit of survival. While Venus played Cuixi, he also revealed the tragic color of Chen Bailu's character more deeply.
