The stage design of the Venus version of the stage play "Sunrise" was photographed by Yin Xuefeng
Beijing, March 9 (China News Network) (Reporter Ying Ni) Classics always have unlimited possibilities on the stage. What possibilities will the stage play "Sunrise", adapted by dance artist Jin Xing based on Cao Yu's play, directed and starred, bring to this classic? Audiences in Beijing will get the answer in April, the first time the version of Sunrise has appeared on the Beijing stage.
The classic drama "Sunrise" in the history of modern Chinese literature is one of the representative works of the outstanding drama master Cao Yu. Ba Jin called it "the best harvest in the New Chinese Literary Movement." This four-act drama consisting of dawn, dusk, midnight and sunrise, takes the protagonist Chen Bailu, the socialite of high society, as a clue, and tells the alienation of people from all walks of life in the 1930s driven by money and power. In the sharp group portrait shaping and the poetic expression of sorrow, the uneasy situation faced by individual beings is clearly revealed, and the reality of "damage is not enough to be more than enough" has been repeatedly examined.
The addition of modern dance is a major breakthrough in this version of "Sunrise" photographed by Yin Xuefeng
Speaking about the adaptation of "Sunrise", Venus said: "This is a story that Chinese knows, and the key is how to present and how to express it. The charm of the stage is that it is a space for the creator to express and a space for communicating with the audience. ”
The addition of modern dance is a major breakthrough in this version of "Sunrise" and the advantage of dancer Venus's stage play creation. The curtain opened, and the first to enter the audience's field of vision were the modern dancers of the Venus Dance Company. Their modern dance performances throughout the play create a multi-dimensional "sunrise world" together with theatrical performances. The unique body language of modern dance extends the space for emotional expression for theatrical performance, and externalizes the dramatic emotions into shape, which is full of beauty and expression. At the same time, the unique stage design echoes with modern dance, which will jointly create a stage space with strong contemporary colors.
Jin Xing played two roles in the play, Chen Bailu on the left and Yin Xuefeng on the right
Writer Ye Shengtao once praised "Sunrise" as "a group portrait of a knife and a chisel that refuses to be sloppy". Mr. Cao Yu's meticulous portrayal of social group portraits is fully interpreted in this edition of Sunrise. In Venus's view, "Sunrise" is not a big heroine drama in the traditional sense, but a social group portrait, in which every character is important, and everyone is a person who makes choices for survival. Therefore, this version of "Sunrise" has more observation and empathy for the characters, and less sharp and simple criticism. Whether it is Pan Yueting, Jin Ba, Gu Ba's grandmother and other cadres in the upper class of the "surplus", or Cui Xi, Xiao Dong and a group of "insufficient people" who have reached the bottom of society, they are all different aspects of all sentient beings.
The complexity of the key role of "Chen Bailu" is even more in the interpretation of Venus's two roles, which has formed a sharp mirror contrast with "Cuixi". Chen Bailu, who is arrogant but helpless to degenerate, Cuixi, who is in the swamp but has a golden heart, and two seemingly different women, seeking survival in different social classes, have similarities in behavior. Venus admits that she prefers Cuixi. In the vulgar clothes and enchanting posture, Venus played Cuixi, and also revealed the tragic color of Chen Bailu's character more deeply.
It is reported that the play will be performed three times in a row at the Beijing Tianqiao Art Center from April 22 to 23. (End)
