Chengdu, 20 Oct (Xinhua) -- Comrade Wang Jianmin, a retired cadre of the Zhengda Military Region and former commander of the Chengdu Military Region, died in Chengdu on 28 September at the age of 78 due to ineffective medical treatment.

A native of Luannan County, Hebei Province, Wang Jianmin joined the army in June 1962 and the Communist Party of China in September 1963. During his revolutionary career, he successively served as a soldier, staff officer, deputy section chief, division chief, deputy minister, division commander, director of the Operations Department of the Headquarters of the Shenyang Military Region, deputy commander, and commander of the Shenyang Military Region, chief of staff and deputy commander of the Shenyang Military Region, and made contributions to the revolutionization, modernization, and regularization of the troops.

Wang Jianmin is a delegate to the 15th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, an alternate member of the 15th Central Committee, a delegate to the 16th National Congress, a member of the 16th Central Committee, a delegate to the 17th National Congress, a member of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress, and a member of the Overseas Chinese Committee. He was promoted to the rank of general in June 2006.
