"At present, charging and power replacement have become the main energy replenishment methods of electric vehicles, but compared with the construction speed of charging piles, the layout of the replacement power station is still lagging behind", on the eve of the two sessions of the National People's Congress in 2022, Li Shufu, deputy to the National People's Congress and chairman of Geely Holding Group, revealed his views on the development status of the power exchange industry.

Li Shufu said that the sustainable development of the power exchange model requires the cooperation of government authorities, industry associations and enterprises. Therefore, during the two sessions of the National People's Congress in 2022, he brought the "Suggestions on Increasing the Construction of electric vehicle power exchange system" to solve the problems currently faced by the electric vehicle power exchange industry.

In addition, as an active promoter of methanol vehicles, Li Shufu also put forward the "Proposal on Promoting the Application of Methanol Vehicles to Help Carbon Neutrality in the Transportation Field". It is reported that this is not the first time that Li Shufu has called for the promotion of methanol vehicles during the two sessions of the National People's Congress, since 2017, in Li Shufu's many suggestions, methanol vehicles are the "keywords" with the highest frequency.

In Li Shufu's view, promoting the popularization of methanol fuel and methanol vehicles is of great significance to reducing air pollutant emissions, improving environmental quality in key areas, implementing oil substitution strategies, taking the route of energy diversification, and ensuring national energy security. Especially in the context of promoting the realization of the "double carbon" goal, it is more necessary to promote the application of methanol vehicles to achieve healthy and sustainable development in the field of transportation.

It is recommended to improve the electric vehicle replacement system

The vigorous development of new energy vehicles has led to the heating up of the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain. Especially in the downstream infrastructure field, it is also constantly expanding with the increase of new energy vehicles.

Relevant data show that in 2021, the number of charging piles in the country has reached 2.617 million units, an increase of 55.7% year-on-year. According to the latest data released by the China Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Promotion Alliance, in January this year, the sales volume of new energy vehicles was 431,000 units, the increase in charging infrastructure was 114,000 units, and the incremental ratio of pile vehicles was 1:3.8.

However, it is worth noting that although the scale of charging infrastructure is gradually expanding with the growth of new energy vehicle sales, the proportion of substations is still at a low level, and its layout speed is significantly weaker than that of charging pile construction. It is reported that by the end of 2021, the number of substations in the country is only 1192, which cannot fully meet the energy supply needs of new energy vehicle consumers.

Li Shufu analyzed that compared with the traditional charging pile energy replenishment method, the vehicle-electricity separation power exchange mode has two major advantages: efficient energy replenishment and cost reduction.

Among them, in terms of efficient energy replenishment, the passenger car only takes about 1-5 minutes to change electricity, which has an absolute advantage compared with the traditional charging pile; in terms of cost, the initial purchase cost of electric vehicles, the power battery accounts for about 40%, and the charging mode of "vehicle and electricity integration" makes the cost of the vehicle be greatly increased, and the purchase price of electric vehicles can be reduced by up to half in the vehicle-to-electricity separation mode.

Li Shufu believes that the promotion of the power exchange model in the field of heavy trucks, taxis, and online car-hailing can improve operational efficiency and make economic benefits more obvious. In addition, battery materials can also be incorporated into the circular economy, further improving environmental efficiency.

However, the current development of the power exchange mode still faces certain bottlenecks, especially in supporting facilities, which still need to be broken. At the same time, the energy density, battery structure and size specifications of power battery products by battery manufacturers cannot be unified, which also causes certain obstacles to the development of power exchange mode.

Therefore, Li Shufu put forward three targeted suggestions, including speeding up the clarification of the relevant provisions of the construction of the substation, the change of high and low voltage boxes, the land and the construction approval, and incorporating them into the national market management standard system; further improving the relevant policies and regulations of the power exchange model, optimizing the announcement regulations of the power exchange model, establishing an exclusive announcement certification system for the power exchange model, forming a separate certification of the car and the battery under the separation of vehicle electricity; and accelerating the standardization and generalization of the power exchange mode.

Li Shufu said that to promote the standardization and generalization of the power exchange mode, the following measures can be taken. First, it can promote the standardization of the software and hardware protocol of the power exchange interface, and preset 2-3 technically advanced interface forms to formulate recommended standards; second, the mechanism, form and compatibility of the replacement power station can be standardized and constrained, so that the technologically advanced replacement power station can be recommended first; third, the standardization of the replacement battery pack can be promoted, so that the battery pack can be truly interchanged between different car companies, different power stations and different users.

Actively promote the application of methanol vehicles

While proposing to actively develop the power exchange model, Li Shufu also once again focused on the methanol automobile field that he has repeatedly called for, and put forward relevant suggestions.

Li Shufu believes that the development of methanol vehicles can promote the development of green methanol, drive the scale of green methanol, completely based on the actual conditions of the country, in line with the mainland's "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality" orderly and steady advancement purposes.

Specifically, the energy efficiency of methanol vehicles is higher than that of gasoline vehicles, and the contribution of energy conservation and emission reduction is greater; at the same time, the "electric methanol" produced by electrolysis of water from renewable energy and the capture of CO2 can promote "carbon neutrality" in the field of transportation and transportation. In addition, the development of methanol vehicles can also ensure the energy security of the mainland to a certain extent and reduce dependence on petroleum resources.

Therefore, Li Shufu suggested that the application of methanol vehicles be fully promoted in the mainland, methanol vehicles should be included in the development system and management of new energy vehicles, methanol vehicles should be given the same policy support as new energy vehicles, driving more enterprises to invest in the research and development of methanol vehicles, and accelerating the realization of carbon neutrality in the transportation field.
