Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory was approved this week or officially put into operation on March 22

The official commissioning date of Tesla's Berlin gigafactory has been delayed, but a new report from the German media outlet Daily Mirror shows that the final approval is expected to be released on Thursday or Friday, and the groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for March 22 or 23. According to the plan, a grand start-up event is also being prepared, including the first deliveries of the German-made Model Y.

It is reported that the Task Force Tesla team led by Dietmar Woidke, the governor of The German state of Brandenburg, met last Tuesday to discuss the final approval of Tesla's Berlin gigafactory. The meeting lasted only 20 minutes, but the outcome of the discussion was clear: Tesla's German electric car factory did not face greater challenges. In the end, the official start of operation of Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory is set for March 22, 2022, but this date may be postponed by one day to March 23, 2022.

The grand commissioning ceremony of Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory is in the works, and even the Brandenburg State Police are making the necessary preparations for the event. Similar to the grand start of the first phase of Tesla's Shanghai Gigafactory in China, the official start of operation of Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory in Germany also includes the delivery of the first mass-produced Model Y to customers, and a total of 30 German-made Model Ys are expected to be delivered to customers at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Originally announced in November 2019 by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the Berlin Gigafactory began construction in early 2020, and Tesla used more than 20 early approval powers to start construction of the first phase of the Berlin Gigafactory at its own risk. Tesla's goal is to start production of the Model Y as early as June 2021, but the date has proved to be too optimistic, and the Berlin Gigafactory has encountered one challenge after another in actual operation, facing problems related to complex approval procedures, strong opposition from environmental groups and Tesla's desire to increase the impact of the battery factory.

Because Tesla is approved to produce 2,000 pre-production cars, so far, Tesla has produced many pre-production cars that are still not allowed to be sold, but according to the estimation of German Tesla enthusiasts, Tesla has produced 1,000 German-made Model Y. With Tesla's Berlin Gigafactory about to start production, the future European market will no longer import cars through Chinese and American factories.
