Harvard: I don't have a collection of ancient Chinese Buddha statues, so I mean to say that I have a top museum

Abroad, powerful universities have their own museums. In the past few years, Shenyang universities have also relied on universities to build museums with the support of the government, such as the Paleontological Museum of Shenyang Normal University, the Arms Museum of Shenyang Ligong University, the Liaoning Provincial Museum of Traditional Chinese Medicine (Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Museum), and the Shenyang Architecture Museum of Shenyang Jianzhu University. Some have been there, some haven't.

Schools like Harvard are not bad at money, and there are at least two museums (visited) – the Natural History Museum and the Museum of Art.

The Harvard University Museum consists of the Fogg Museum of Art, the Boothrich Lessinger Museum of Art, and the Arthur Sackler Museum of Art. They are all named after major donors. Fogg mainly collects Western paintings, Booth leisinger mainly collects German art, and Arthur Sackler mainly collects Asian art.

Now they are all under one roof, collectively known as the "Harvard Art Museum".

A museum without ancient Chinese artwork is not a good museum. The Harvard Art Museum has a good collection of ancient Chinese bronzes, jades, ceramics, ancient paintings, and Buddhist carvings.

Room 1610 of the museum is dedicated to Chinese Buddha statues (there are also a few sporadic pieces from other East Asian countries). If you have the opportunity, you must not leave room 2740, where there are Dunhuang cultural relics.

See how high the level of Chinese statues in Harvard's collection is. If the collection was acquired at the beginning of the last century, hey! Probably not so clean. Fortunately, the collections that enter the museum are also considered "lifelong dependent", so let them spread Chinese culture forever.

Northern Wei 386-534. This Buddha has a high bun, ears and shoulders, a rounded face, a serene demeanor, and a solemn appearance. The right hand is made of the fearless seal, the left hand is held in the corner of the garment, and the right shoulder type monk branch is dressed, and the knot sits on a double-decked pedestal. This is the classic style of gold and bronze statues in the Northern Wei Taihe period.

The statue and the pedestal are cast together, and the double-deck pedestal is exquisitely carved and well-made. The upper level is a Sumire seat, covered with lotus petals on the back, and the side of the platform is decorated with tang grass patterns. The two eagled lions in front of the seat looked back and turned to look up, with a mighty posture. The lower square seat has a wavy door with an offering carved on both sides.

The statue of the Buddha,D.C. is well preserved, exquisitely carved, and has a clear chronology, making it one of the most important surviving golden and bronze Buddhist statues in the world.
