Apple 2022 Mac Exposure: The whole series uses self-developed chips

What about the legendary M2 chip?

Yesterday, the well-known journalist Mark Gurman (Mark Gurman) revealed the latest news of the new generation of Mac models in his latest issue of "Power On" column, he said that this year Apple will go further in the transformation of self-developed chips, and all series of Mac computers use Apple chips.

Gurman said at least seven new Macs will be launched this year, with four main processors: M2 chips, M1 Pro and M1 Max chips for model 2021, and performance-enhanced M1 Max chips. It is reported that the performance-enhanced version of the M1 Max is equivalent to two to four 2021 M1 Max.

Among them, there are four models equipped with M2 chips, namely: Mac mini, 13-inch MacBook Pro (performance slightly lower than 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro), redesigned MacBook Air and 24-inch iMac;

There are two models with M1 Pro/M1 Max: a large-screen version of the iMac Pro, and another version of the Mac mini;

Finally, the new model with the enhanced M1 Max is the Mac Pro after halving the size, which is also the first time that Apple's high-end desktop series, the Mac Pro, has embraced Apple chips.

Gurman said apple's next round of Mac releases is likely to start in March, and March 8 is the time of Apple's first conference in 2022. Previously, it was revealed that the focus of this conference was the 5G version of the iPhone SE and iPad Air, but only releasing an "old mobile phone" and tablet obviously could not satisfy the appetite of consumers, so the addition of Apple's new M2 chip will greatly enrich the content of this conference.

Since the entry-level MacBook Pro and Mac mini are the oldest models currently used in Apple's product line using self-developed chips, they are expected to be the next wave of upgrades. This means that Apple will be able to launch a new entry-level MacBook Pro and Mac mini as soon as March 8.

For the speculation and rumors of M2 chips, foreign media are also talking about it. Macworld, a senior fruit powder media website, said that the difference between M2 and M1 chips is like the difference between A14 and A15 chips. Bloomberg expects that the CPU of the M2 chip will still use the 8-core architecture of the M1 chip, but the GPU part will be greatly improved, and it will be enhanced from the 7/8 core architecture to the 9/10 core architecture. But as a basic chip, the performance of M2 does not have to be too expected, Apple will follow the M1 series of conventions in 2023 to launch M2 Pro and M2 Max, the two chips are expected to have a significant increase in multi-core performance.

Obviously, at present, Apple is actively building its own self-developed chip family, although the launch time is many years late to Intel, but the progress and growth rate are very obvious.
