Ding Aihua is a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province, and graduated from Shanghai Second Medical College in 1956. After graduation, he entered the Red House Hospital. If you want to summarize the two most important work contributions of her career, then the early stage is the prevention and treatment of cervical cancer, and the later stage is the application of laser technology to obstetrics and gynecology research.
In the early 1970s, Ding Aihua responded to the national policy of "prevention first" and put his most vigorous energy into the activities of going to the mountains and going to the countryside to do cervical cancer prevention and screening for the majority of women. She led a census team to go deep into the streets, factories, and rural areas to promote the knowledge of cervical cancer prevention and treatment to women.
For the prevention of cervical cancer, Ding Aihua is very experienced, because when she was in the hospital, she managed the cancer ward as an attending physician, and saw many cervical cancer patients who were found to be terminal, they were not only extremely painful in their bodies, but also flowed pungent secretions from the body, in the face of ruthless advanced cancer, as a doctor, even if she was deeply distressed, she could not do anything.
But in fact, cervical cancer is a cancer that can be found and cured through early screening, but in that conservative era, women were embarrassed, and it was extremely difficult for them to take off their clothes and consciously accept cervical cancer screening. In order to change this awareness, When Ding Aihua went to the countryside to conduct censuses and propaganda, he could only use typical cases to teach them.
Every time she gives the example of a woman with advanced cervical cancer, the pain caused by the disease makes her can't help but bite herself, and her body continues to flow out secretions. The mother had three children, the eldest of whom was only eight or nine years old, but she was very sensible and washed her mother's diaper every day. In order to treat her illness, her husband worked hard early and late, but under the dual pressure of body and heart, she finally chose to commit suicide.
But if she had sought medical attention sooner, perhaps the outcome would not have been so tragic.
Whenever this story is told, Ding Aihua will have red eyes, and it does make other women have a huge shock in their hearts. Coupled with Dr. Ding Aihua's very sincere and repeated publicity, the census is free, so more and more women are beginning to accept the census, including many elderly people in their seventies and eighties.
Gradually, Ding Aihua's workload became larger and larger, and she endured the discomfort of inhaling too much gas in the winter, and she also insisted on doing examinations for women, and if she could operate immediately, she would be treated on the spot, and if cancer was found, she would be sent to the hospital for treatment. At the same time, she also trained a large number of grass-roots medical personnel and barefoot doctors, created the prototype of the tumor prevention and treatment network, and carried out the census and treatment work for more than 500,000 people.
Tangjiawan, where she was in charge, was the area with the highest incidence of cervical cancer at the time of the initial investigation, and after three years of hard work, the area basically eliminated advanced cervical cancer, and five years later, it eliminated early cervical cancer. Ding Aihua's team received a warm welcome from local women every time they went to the countryside, beat gongs and drums to greet them, and the brigade also vacated an office to support their work, and when they completed the census work and took the truck back to the hospital, the dust rolled up by the wheels turned them into "gray haired women", which they felt funny and happy.
For its outstanding achievements in cancer prevention work, Red House Hospital was commended at the National Conference. Ding Aihua said: "For so many years, our efforts are to popularize the concept that tumors must be eliminated in the bud. ”
With the initial results of cancer screening and prevention, Ding Aihua began to further study a more advanced cancer treatment method - laser technology. This idea stemmed from the fact that in 1974, she listened to a report on "laser medicine" and learned that lasers can treat tumors, she was extremely excited, she was eager to see laser technology can become a treatment for gynecological precancerous lesions, especially wanted Red House Hospital to introduce new laser technologies.
However, at that time, Ding Aihua's cervical department only had a fund of 200 yuan, and it was impossible to afford more than 10,000 lasers. To this end, Ding Aihua thought of many ways, and finally could only "borrow chickens and eggs" and use the machines of the institute to explore laser technology.
However, due to the fact that Ding Aihua treated many patients in the anti-cancer work, follow-up was also many, often crowded the corridors of the office, when a municipal leader inspected, he fully affirmed Ding Aihua's work, and also learned about Ding Aihua's laser needs, and specially approved a laser for the hospital.
Later, Ding Aihua created a laser room, using new laser technology to treat vulvar itching, cervicitis, wound infection, correct fetal position and other problems, and also invented the spectral analysis of cancer measurement method, which won the fourth prize of the Invention Category of the State Science and Technology Commission.
In order to verify the safety of laser technology, Ding Aihua will do a lot of animal experiments, she and her colleagues in the Institute of Physiology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in the animal room of their own raising mice, rabbits, take lasers to irradiate rabbits, observe rabbit grandmothers, rabbit mothers, rabbit baby three generations of rabbits, to determine that the laser does not have adverse effects on the rabbit's genetics, before doing it in people.
After unremitting efforts, by the mid-1980s, the Red House Hospital has a variety of lasers of various varieties, explored the obstetrics and gynecology diseases that can be treated by lasers, and combined lasers and endoscopes for patient diagnosis and treatment, obtained many article reports, and achieved fruitful results, making the laser application technology of Red House Hospital in a leading position in the industry for many years.
Speaking of these achievements, Ding Aihua showed great modesty: "These are crude attempts made under the historical conditions of the 1970s and 1980s, as if using millet plus rifles, and today's aircraft artillery missile nuclear weapons are incomparable, at that time can be counted as a little contribution, now it is not remarkable, even if it is a contribution, it is also the colleagues in the department who work together to do it, and it is by no means achievable by individual strength." For her choice to practice medicine, Ding Aihua has no complaints or regrets, and when asked what the doctor's profession has brought her, she replied: "The spirit of saving lives and helping the injured is really in the eyes."
