In "I Am Not Pan Jinlian", Li Xuelian, a rural woman who was wrongfully named "Pan Jinlian", experienced a ridiculous divorce case, and she wanted to prove that the previous divorce was fake, and even more to prove that she was not Pan Jinlian, so she embarked on the road of complaint for twenty years.

"'I'm Not Pan Jinlian' is a story of sesame seeds turning into watermelons, which was originally a one-sentence thing, but it evolved into a bitter lawsuit for twenty years." Liu Zhenyun said of his work: "This play is not a debate between right and wrong, there is no bad person on the stage, everyone wants to help Li Xuelian, but just as this work has a central word, that is, 'no solution', Li Xuelian needs to correct a sentence in twenty years, and this sentence can never be corrected." Sesame seeds become watermelons, ants become elephants, and each process of change is drama. ”

Liu Zhenyun's attitude towards his novel being adapted into various art forms is very open-minded and open-minded. "The structure of the play is very different from the structure of the novel, and it is particularly restrictive because it is a stage. But I found that good dramatists, in a limited space, must be able to open up an infinite space that is even broader than words. As a fiction writer, I can also learn a lot. I have a lot of trust in them, and I believe it will be a beautiful and profound work. ”

Ding Yiteng, a post-90s dramatist, has been called "the leading figure of the new generation of young theater directors in China today". In the face of the bumpy and absurd fate of "Li Xuelian" in "I Am Not Pan Jinlian", Ding Yiteng hopes to connect tradition and contemporary, East and West across time and space in his creation, presenting a "sense of humor, epic sense, and sense of the times".

Ding Yiteng said: "When I treat classics, I will look for inspiration and entry points with my eyes, and cut in my own way. This contains the spirit of the original work, as well as my own personal expression with a sense of the times. I think "I Am Not Pan Jinlian" is actually the story of a woman walking alone in the dimension of history, constantly proving who she really is. This is a topic of common humanity, not only Li Xuelian, Antigone, Medea, Mu Guiying, Dou E... It's the same way. ”

"I Am Not Pan Jinlian" is Zhang Xinyi's drama stage debut. She said that she very much liked this female theme work written by teacher Liu Zhenyun "in a state of listening", and she was particularly happy to cooperate with director Ding Yiteng and the young artists in the crew. Her personal emotions and growth experiences have also given her more understanding and creative energy for her characters. To this end, she pushed off many film and television variety show invitations and devoted herself to drama rehearsals.

On March 4th and 5th, "I Am Not Pan Jinlian" will be premiered at the Guangzhou Opera House as the opening play of the 2022 Women's Arts Festival of the Guangzhou Opera House, followed by a tour to Wuxi, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Shanghai and other places; from May 25 to 29, it will be performed at the Beijing Tianqiao Art Center Grand Theater.
