Foreword to the exhibition

Emotions are in plastic

Preface to the wei xiaojie sculpture exhibition

Statues and educating people are the pleasures of Professor Wei Xiaojie. Full of hope and ideals, passion and diligence, she has continuously worked hard in sculpture creation and teaching and teaching theory, and has achieved remarkable results. As a female sculptor, she is full of maternal love in her life, and integrates her works with the deep affection of the pulse, and the wisps of fingerprints and plastic marks reflect her subtle observation of things and the exploration of artistic expression; she injects this affection into her teaching and education, often leading students to visit and sketch in various cultural resorts across the country in the summer, and moisturizing the hearts of generations of young students in the feeling of the excellent cultural traditions of the motherland.

Her sculptures, in the performance of mother and child as the theme, emphasize imagery and form. The thick shape reflects the beauty of sculpture in the simple and simple form shaping, and in the turn of the face and the surface, the rhythm of the line and the body is formed, which is in line with the theme of maternal love, the modeling of content and emotion, and the formal language of sculpture art. As an artistic creation, the key lies in the assimilation of form and content, which is not only beyond the simple "realistic shaping" of the object, but also has a cookie-cutter formal routine.

Her sculptures, in the performance of outstanding figures as the theme, re-emphasize the reality and re-convey the gods. According to the different lives and achievements of the characters, dynamic design and expression portrayal; the depth of thought of historical figures, the wisdom of scientists, and the elegance of literary artists are the focus of Wei Xiaojie's creative process. In the first half of the 20th century, Chinese sculptors went to the West to "learn from the scriptures" to learn the method of portrait shaping and the method of monument construction, and contributed to the anti-imperialist and anti-feudal national movement. How to continue to innovate and develop in the forest of world artistic language today requires the efforts of generations of artists, and Wei Xiaojie is not alone in this regard.

She has established herself as a pioneer in nurturing students and preaching and teaching, and has taught by example as a diligent gardener. In terms of teaching practice and management, the implementation of basic skills, basic courses and fieldwork combined, and the interaction with creation, the combination of artistic creation, art design and social practice, social service. She herself is full of vitality and friends with young students, teaching and learning, enjoying it.

Times make people. Professor Wei Xiaojie grew up in the era of reform and opening up, and today, coinciding with the great new era, General Secretary Xi Jinping called on the vast number of literary and art workers to live up to the call of the times, live up to the expectations of the people, and create better and more literary and artistic works. Looking at the Chinese art and education circles, there are many talents. As the highest hall of national fine arts, exhibitions should be held for those who have worked hard and achieved achievements, so that the whole society can form a good atmosphere, respect talents, respect creation, and respect labor.

We look forward to Professor Wei Xiaojie's better achievements in art creation and art education, and to give a new chapter to the times. ——Wu Weishan (Member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference / Director of the National Art Museum of China / Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association)
