The School of Medical Sciences of Zhengzhou University and the Henan Medical College of Zhengzhou University were renamed the Henan Medical College of Zhengzhou University. The implementation of Zhengzhou University Academy of Medical Sciences, Zhengzhou University Henan Medical College (referred to as the Academy of Medical Sciences, Henan Medical College) joint signature, two brands, a team, a set of internal institutions. The name change has been rumored for a long time
Regarding the renaming of Zhengzhou University School of Medicine, it has a long history.
In the second half of 2018, during the 90th anniversary of Zhengzhou University, a letter entitled "Proposal on the Establishment of Henan Medical College of Zhengzhou University" was widely circulated, and the article made suggestions from six angles, such as the establishment of Zhengzhou University Henan Medical College in line with national policies and requirements, in line with the laws of international higher medical education, protecting the historical brand of Zhengzhou University, showing the long history and brilliant achievements of Zhengzhou University, condensing the alumni feelings formed at home and abroad for 90 years, and building the great strength of the double-first-class university of the alma mater, and the common practice of similar universities in China.
Nie Wei, the drafter of the proposal and director of the Institute of Hospital Management of Zhengzhou University, told the "medical think tank" that when the document was drafted, it was supported by tens of thousands of former Alumni of Henan Medical College, and finally more than 300 deans, directors and professors signed the proposal.
Later, professor Zhang Xiaofang of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, who is 102 years old (then 99 years old), the founder of the research on foreign bodies in the eye and the academic leader of the eye trauma major, also recorded videos and published an open letter proposing to restore the name of "Henan Medical College". It mentions:
The predecessor of this school is Henan University School of Medicine. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the school was run under very difficult circumstances. Studying very hard during the War of Resistance Against Japan. I feel that the history of Henan Medical College, which can also be said to be a glorious history, is indelible and must be restored! The name of Henan Medical College is not restored, which is inconsistent with history. It goes against history and cannot account to the vast number of students who have graduated from Henan Medical College.
In addition, Professor Zhang Shuijun, former Secretary of the Party Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Professor Li Shuxin of the Department of Radiology and others have strongly called for the renaming of zhengzhou university school of medicine to Henan Medical College of Zhengzhou University on different occasions and through different media. It can be said that this successful name change is expected by all.

The restructuring is more in line with the laws of medical education
The name is just a code name, but more crucially, this time, from the system, a drastic reform has been carried out.
According to the "Reform Plan", the Academy of Medical Sciences of Zhengzhou University and the Henan Medical College of Zhengzhou University were established and co-located. Among them, the Academy of Medical Sciences is positioned as a discipline research institute, with three scientific research institutions under it, which mainly undertake the functions of physical scientific research institutions and promote the integration of discipline construction, scientific research and graduate training.

Carrying on your back the burden of building a medical highland
Zhengzhou University, the first comprehensive university (formerly Zhengzhou University) founded by the state after the founding of New China, is the only former national "211 Project" construction university in Henan, and is the first provincial and ministerial joint construction university in China. Its long history is mainly due to the former Henan Medical University, which was later incorporated.
In September 1928, under the initiative of Zhang Jingwu, Shangguan Wuchen and a number of returned doctors from overseas study, the Fifth National Sun Yat-sen University (the predecessor of henan university) created a medical department, which opened a precedent for modern medical education in Henan Province, and the medical education of Zhengzhou University was born here.
In October 1952, when the national faculties were adjusted, the department was separated from Henan University and renamed Henan Medical College, which was subordinate to the Central Ministry of Health. In 1958, it was moved to the provincial capital Zhengzhou, and in 1962, Luoyang Medical College was incorporated. In December 1984, with the approval of the People's Government of Henan Province, the school was renamed Henan Medical University. Combined with the fact that it was the second round of double first-class selection of colleges and universities across the country at that time, many people in the industry believe that this is the signal that the Ministry of Education requires the clinical medical profession of Zhengzhou University to rectify, that is, the folk commonly known as the "bright yellow card", if the development is not accelerated, according to the principle of "double first-class" colleges and universities can enter and exit, the clinical medical profession is likely to be kicked out of the "double first-class" discipline.
Judging from the final results, the "double first-class" is stable, but the follow-up reform pressure still exists.
Dr. Zhuang Yiqiang believes that after the name change, he has assumed the historical brand, which is more conducive to changing the awareness of running a school. When he mentioned the development of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University for example, he said that "first bigger and then stronger" may also be suitable for the development of medical schools, focusing on promoting Henan medical education to climb the high ground.
Song Zhenghui, secretary of the party group and director of the Department of Education of Henan Province, said in a recent interview with the media: "During the '14th Five-Year Plan' period, Henan Province will invest 5 billion yuan to support the construction of Zhengzhou University's first-class university, and strive to enter the top 30 in the national comprehensive ranking of Zhengzhou University at the end of the '14th Five-Year Plan'. ”
