How the ancient Jiaxing people made the Lantern Festival
Eat tangyuan
In the Famous Painting of Jiahe Customs, "Taiping Joy Map", it is recorded that the Festival of the Lantern Festival in Zhejiang, no matter the shishu, will buy powder balls to give each other, called "lantern circle". As early as the Southern Song Dynasty, eating dumplings during the Lantern Festival was already a relatively common festival nationwide. Like the north-south dispute between dumplings and wontons, the Lantern Dumplings are called Lanterns in the north and Tangyuan or Tang dumplings in the south, and there are some differences in practice.
For Jiaxing people, tangyuan can be divided into sweet and salty, sweet sesame seeds and fine bean paste, etc., salty is made of pork. Although the taste of Jiaxing is sweet, the best local tangyuan is actually the salty tangyuan filling, with thin skin, filling, and delicious soup soaked in glutinous rice.
In the 1950s, on Jianguo Road in the city center, there was a revival tangyuan shop, which was a good memory of many old Jiaxing people. The salty soup balls in the shop are oblong, with a sharp drop-shaped end, while the sweet soup balls are kneaded into a round shape. Generally, each guest tangyuan is six, and when waiting for the tangyuan to come out of the pot, they often see the saliva for a long time and can't wait to come to such a bowl.
Lantern watch the lights
In addition to eating tangyuan, the lamp is also a very important element of the Lantern Festival, and the Lantern Festival has also gained the reputation of "Lantern Festival". The "Taiping Joy Map" records such an old proverb: "On the lamp round and falling lamp cake." One of the paintings, "Lantern Market," depicts a street vendor selling lanterns, carrying a basket filled with multicolored flower lanterns and holding lotus and carp lamps.
In ancient Times, Jiaxing was very lively, and the most representative one was the Aoshan Lantern Festival in Xincheng Town. According to the "Ancient He Miscellaneous Knowledge", "Shangyuan Lantern City was lit on the thirteenth day and received on the seventeenth." Miscellaneous colors tie the Aoshan Mountain, hydrangea figures, building platforms, lights have five colors, bright horns, official yarn, ink removal, material silk." The lantern-greeting procession is accompanied by silk bamboo playing and folk songs and dances such as stilts and swinging lake boats.
To this day, the Aoshan Lantern Festival in Xincheng Town is still one of the most famous and influential lantern festivals, and in 2009, the Xincheng Lantern Folk Customs were included in the third batch of Jiaxing Intangible Cultural Heritage List. In addition, Haining's Kip stone lantern is also an indispensable element of jiaxing Lantern Festival, as early as 2006, Kip shek lantern was included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list, with lantern decoration lanterns, fire trees and honeysuckle, glittering, beautiful.
