It's unclear why this error keeps occurring. The bug reportedly happened on both M1 and Intel chip Macs, running stable and beta versions of macOS.

Apple just last month fixed an ongoing iCloud server issue that caused some iCloud-enabled apps to fail to sync properly. The problem has been around since November, and app developers are increasingly unhappy that Apple hasn't made an effort to fix it.

In addition, Apple's iCloud service was down for a while in January. Many users have reported that when logging in to the service, the password entry box pops up frequently, but they still cannot log in properly after entering the correct password. Not only is iCloud unable to log in, but iMessage, iCloud Mail, Game Center Game Center, and more are also malfunctioning. Users in several countries and regions have reported that iCloud service is out of service and backup operations cannot be performed.
