All future Calls of Duty games will be developed on the same engine

Recently, Activision officially announced Call of Duty 19: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Warzone 2, both of which were developed by IW using the same new engine. In an interview with YouTube anchor Jackfrags, IW co-leader Patrick Kelly confirmed that all future Call of Duty games will be developed on the same engine.

Kelly says their new engine will be "much better" than the current software toolset. While every studio wants to make sure the series doesn't get too homogeneous, using the same engine will make future integrations much simpler.

IW, Treyarch, and Sledgehammer take turns leading the call of duty games, but each studio uses its own version of the Call of Duty engine, which has been a problem in the past, but when Warzone arrives, it's a headache.

This free-to-play battle royale game must be integrated with Call of Duty 16: Modern Warfare in 2019, Call of Duty 17: Black Ops Cold War in 2020 (using a different engine), and 2021 with Call of Duty 18: Vanguard (the same engine as Modern Warfare). Not surprisingly, this created many problems for Raven Software, the developer who led the development of Call of Duty: Warzone, and fixing these piles of technical problems became increasingly challenging.
