Shen Bin, a national first-class director, has passed away! His directing work "Hall of Eternal Life" won the top spot of the Wenhua Awards

According to the obituary of the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe on February 13, Shen Bin, a national first-class director of the troupe and vice president of the Chinese Opera Directors Association, died at the age of 74 at the Shanghai Sixth People's Hospital at 23:16 on February 12 due to ineffective medical treatment. Nandu reporter learned that Shen Bin was awarded the title of "Outstanding Creator of Kunqu Art" by the Ministry of Culture, and the Kunqu opera he participated in directing won the Wenhua Award (the top of the list), in addition to directing Different Dramas such as Peking Opera, Yue Opera, Cantonese Opera, Yu Opera, etc., and is highly respected in the opera industry. After Shen Bin's death, not only the descendants of Kunqu Opera, but also practitioners of many domestic drama genres have publicly mourned, saying that the sad news was sudden, which is a pity.

Shen Bin was born in 1947 and was born as an opera actor. In 1959, he entered the second class of Kunqu Opera of Shanghai Opera School to study martial arts, under the tutelage of Gai Chunlai and Tan Jinlin, as well as Zheng Chuanjian, Fang Chuanyun and other famous teachers of the "Chuanzi Generation". In 1978, the Shanghai KunQu Troupe was established, and Shen Bin joined the troupe as an actor and technical director.

At the beginning of the founding of New China, there was no full-time director for the rehearsal of Kunqu opera, and every big drama could only ask Huang Zuolin and other famous drama directors to guide, and the development of Kunqu opera performance was not a long-term solution. After the establishment of the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe, Shen Bin was selected as an opera director among a number of outstanding young actors, and in 1986, he entered the directing department of the China Academy of Opera, systematically and comprehensively studied the art of opera directing, became a disciple of the director artist Li Zigui, returned to the troupe after graduation, and specially directed opera performances, including the essence version of "The Hall of Eternal Life", "Zhan Hua Kui", "Blood Hand", "The Afterword of the White Snake", "The Dream of the New Butterfly" and other classic dramas.

He co-directed the essence of the "Hall of Eternal Life", which won the Wenhua Repertory Award (top of the list) and the Excellent Director Award of the 7th China Arts Festival, and he himself was awarded the title of "Kunqu Art Excellent (Director) Creator" by the Ministry of Culture. In addition to Kunqu opera, Shen Bin has also directed plays for more than ten genres such as Beijing, Yue, Yu and Cantonese, such as Peking Opera "Autumn Wind Fu", Kun opera "Li Qingzhao", Qin Cavity "Li Bai Chang'an Xing" and so on.

Shen Bin loves drama like crazy, once laughed at himself that "nothing in this life, only opera", when teaching, full dedication, vivid expression was also recorded by students and circulated on the Internet. For inheritance and innovation, he clearly put forward the concept of "the old is not old, the new is not separated from the original", and in 2018, he summarized his experience in 60 years of engaging in opera as the book "Pinlan Exploration - The Road of Kunqu Opera Directors", which was regarded as a "model work" by the opera industry. Mao Shi'an, a well-known literary and art critic, said that Shen Bin was an important opera director at the turning point of Chinese opera from decline to prosperity, and future generations should learn from his strong responsibility.

After his death due to illness, the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe obituary said: "Mr. Shen Bin has made outstanding contributions to the inheritance, enrichment and development of Kunqu opera repertoire, and has played a great role in promoting the development of the art of opera directors. Mr. Shen Bin is ancient! ”
