Shen Bin died at the age of 74

According to the CCTV news client, the reporter learned from the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe that Comrade Shen Bin, a member of the China Democratic League, a national first-class director of the Shanghai Kunqu Troupe, vice president of the Chinese Opera Directors Association, and a representative inheritor of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Shanghai, died in Shanghai at the age of 74 at 23:16 on February 12, 2022 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Shen Bin was born in Shanghai in 1947, and in 1959, he entered the second class of Kunqu Opera of Shanghai Opera School to study martial arts, and studied under Gai Chunlai, Tan Jinlin, Zheng Chuanjian, Fang Chuanyun and other famous teachers of the "Chuanzi Generation". In 1978, when the Shanghai Kunqu Opera Troupe was founded, he joined the troupe, and in 1986, he entered the Directing Department of the China Academy of Drama for further study, systematically and comprehensively studied the art of opera directing, became a disciple of the director artist Mr. Li Zigui, and became a full-time director after returning to the troupe.

Shen Bin has directed the essence version of "Hall of Eternal Life", "Zhan Hua Kui", "Blood Hand", "White Snake Sequel", "New Butterfly Dream", "Jiashen Ji", "Legend of No Salt", "Shangling Mountain", "False Son-in-law Riding the Dragon", "The Book of Chao Ju", "Dragon and Phoenix Shirt", "Lion Roar", "Lei Feng Pagoda", "Linchuan Four Dreams nanke Dream", "Immortal Hall" (one and two books) and many other large-scale plays. The essence version of "ChangshengDian", which he co-directed, won the Wenhua Repertoire Award (top of the list) and the Excellent Director Award of the 7th China Arts Festival, and was awarded the title of "Kunqu Art Excellent (Director) Creator" by the Ministry of Culture.

Shen Bin not only teaches and directs plays for various Kunqu opera troupes, inherits and directs more than 100 folds of kunqu opera's excellent traditional classic origami plays and videos, but also directs more than 100 plays for more than ten types of plays such as Beijing, Yue, Yu, Huai, Wu, Shao, Xi, Yue, Guangdong, Qian, Lei, and Yue. As an opera director with a martial arts actor background, he has a personal understanding and grasp of the inheritance and innovation of opera stage repertoire, puts forward and adheres to the creative concept of "the old is not old, the new is not separated from the original", and always adheres to the principle of parallel teaching and directing in long-term creative practice.

In his more than 40 years of directing career, he has personally written plans, elaborations and summaries of each play he has directed, published more than 30 papers and reviews before and after, published the theoretical work "Pinlan Exploration - The Road to Kunqu Opera Directing", and traveled overseas, Hong Kong and Taiwan to give lectures and exchanges and direct rehearsals many times. It has made outstanding contributions to the inheritance, enrichment and development of Kunqu opera repertoire, and has played a great role in promoting the development of opera directing art.
