The Yanqing Division is the most difficult to build in this Winter Olympic Games. Li Xinggang, chief architect of China Architectural Design and Research Institute, led the team to start from scratch and build the world's leading Winter Olympic venues in the Xiaohaituo Mountainous Area with complex terrain, harsh climate and sensitive ecology, filling the gap in the construction of venues on the mainland with high difficulties. From the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Li Xinggang has also become a veritable designer of the Double Olympic Games.
From the Bird's Nest to the Little Haituo Mountain
At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Li Xinggang served as the chief designer of the Chinese side of the National Stadium Bird's Nest, and led the team to continue to participate in the post-competition operation support of the Bird's Nest. At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, Li Xinggang became the chief designer of Yanqing And is a veritable designer of the Double Olympic Games.
"It can be said that we have turned the entire southern foothills of Xiaohaituo Mountain into a stadium, and the construction volume is 10 times that of the bird's nest." Li Xinggang said.
The building difficulty of the venue itself is also quite high. Taking the National Bobsleigh Center as an example, the track needs to adjust the curved shape of the track accordingly according to each curve change, so as to ensure the balance of safety and competitiveness when the athletes corner, and almost every section of the nearly 2-kilometer track is different. The design, construction and operation of such a difficult competition venue is the first time in China.
Li Xinggang led the team to start "reverse research and development", and launched the national key research and development plan "Science and Technology Winter Olympics" key special project "Winter Olympics Under Complex Mountain Conditions Winter Olympics Design, Construction, Operation and Maintenance Key Technologies".
The mountain forest venue is full of science and technology
The venue location in Yanqing Is also exquisite. As is customary, the snowmobile bobsleigh race is generally on the north slope of the mountain to avoid the softening of the ice surface of the track caused by direct sunlight during the day. But the design team turned around Little Haituo Mountain, choosing to go around, and only one area of the south slope had the right construction slope.
"Turn the south slope into the north slope!" Li Xinggang's team used the natural shading of natural terrain, combined with artificial terrain, awnings, windshields and other designs, to achieve the development and construction of the "terrain climate protection system" for the bobsleigh track. In the end, the plan successfully passed the audit of the International Olympic Committee and international individual sports organizations, and the energy saving indicators of the track were even better than those of the North Slope.
The design showcases Chinese village culture
The design of the Winter Olympic Village is full of Chinese flavor, and Li Xinggang's team did not follow the idea of "building a building in the mountains" of previous Winter Olympics, but adopted the settlement layout of traditional mountain villages on the mainland. Courtyard after courtyard spreads along the hillside. During the construction process, a large number of native trees were preserved, and the remains of Xiaozhuanghu Village in the 1940s were repaired as old, fully demonstrating the inheritance of village culture.
After the completion of the Yanqing Race Area, the National Alpine Ski Center and the National Bobsleigh Center were respectively certified as "the world's leading alpine ski resorts and bobsleigh venues" by the corresponding international individual sports organizations.
For the future development of Yanqing Division, Li Xinggang's team has long planned. They deeply summarized the post-game utilization experience of the "Bird's Nest", formulated the "Winter Olympic Snow Venues and Auxiliary Facilities Post-Game Renovation Design Technology and Guidelines" in advance for the development of the Yanqing Olympic Park, and reserved the space for post-game transformation and upgrading in the planning and design process. Li Xinggang said that in the post-Winter Olympic era, Yanqing Olympic Park can not only provide professional athletes with international ice and snow sports venues and training venues, but also attract more enthusiasts to participate in ice and snow sports.
