On February 9, local time, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) said it had seized more than $3 billion worth of bitcoin and arrested two suspects on suspicion of conspiracy to launder cryptocurrencies. The case is related to the 2016 hacking of cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex and the theft of about 120,000 bitcoins, when each bitcoin was priced at just over $700.

Prosecutors said the two arrested were a New York-based couple named Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan. The two were accused of using illegally obtained funds to buy gold, cryptocurrencies, NFTs and even Walmart gift cards.

The couple's social life is quite rich, among them, Morgan is also active on the TikTok platform as an amateur rapper with the stage name Razzlekhan.

U.S. District Judge Debra Freeman set Lichtenstein and Morgan bail at $5 million and $3 million, respectively, and asked their parents to secure the property.
