Still, 3D movies dominated American cinema in the 1950s, and later experienced a global renaissance in the 1980s and 1990s, propelled by IMAX High-End Cinema and Disney— the themed venues. 3D movies have become increasingly successful as they enter the 21st century, with Avatar released in 2009 bringing 3D movies to their peak.
