Canadian truck drivers protested against obstructing the U.S.-Canada trade route, and carmakers such as Ford GM cut production

According to the Wall Street Journal, detroit-based automakers have reduced production in the United States and Canada and temporarily let Canadian employees go home due to protests against mandatory COVID-19 vaccination regulations.

Ford imposed a temporary shutdown at its assembly plant in Oakville, Ontario, near Toronto, and also shut down an engine plant in Windsor, forcing Stellantis to cut shifts this week.

A GM spokesman said the company canceled early production at an assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan, on Thursday because of a shortage of spare parts caused by traffic disruptions to commercial trucks at Ambassador Bridge. The bridge is an important U.S.-Canada trade route connecting Detroit to the city of Windsor, Ontario.
