Beyond the Google Pixel! Samsung confirms that it offers an Android update guarantee of up to 5 years

Samsung announced that it will provide 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of Android security patches for its galaxy high-end mobile phones and tablets. This will also make Samsung the brand with the longest guarantee of updates in the Android camp at present, even beyond the update deadline provided by Google for its own Pixel devices.

For comparison, Google currently offers 3 years of Android major updates for its Pixel devices, and 5 years of security updates. This also allows foreign technology websites "9to5Google" to name, in addition to Samsung's ability to do it, Qualcomm is actually laying the foundation in the processor design, enough to support 4 years of big updates, Google is the time to launch a longer update guarantee.

Samsung's approach also allows the update time limit of Android high-end machines to catch up with Apple's iOS. Although Apple does not officially announce the support time limit, it can generally provide a support time limit of more than 5 years.

As for the first devices to receive Samsung's commitment to support 4-year major updates and 5-year security patches, they include the released flagship machines Galaxy S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, and the tablet Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8+ and Tab S8 Ultra. The Galaxy S21 FE, which was launched at the beginning of this year, is also supported.

Since the S22 series, S21FE and Tab S8 have Android 12 built into the factory, users are expected to continue to update to Android 16, which is expected to be released in 2025.

The Samsung flagship machine launched last year also has an update guarantee, including the folding machine Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, and Galaxy S21, S21+ and S21 Ultra, and it is estimated that the last updatable version will be Android 15 announced in 2024.
