Another chip giant will appear, and the AMD Xilinx acquisition will be completed next week

On Feb. 10, AMD issued a press release saying it had obtained all necessary approvals for the acquisition of Xilinx, including all necessary government permits. The transaction is expected to close around February 14.

On October 27, 2020, AMD announced a $35 billion acquisition of Xilinx, a major FPGA (field programmable gate array) manufacturer. After the merger, AMD will own a 74% stake in Xilinx, and Xilinx's current CEO and president, Victor Peng, will join AMD as president, responsible for Xilinx's business and strategic development planning.

On January 27, the Anti-Monopoly Bureau of the State Administration for Market Regulation issued an announcement saying that after review, the State Administration for Market Regulation decided to attach restrictive conditions to approve the case.

According to market research firm IC Insights estimates, AMD revenue in 2021 increased by 65% year-on-year, about $16.1 billion, while Xilinx's 2021 revenue of nearly 4 billion, after the merger of the two will enter the world's top ten semiconductor companies, behind Qualcomm, Nvidia and Broadcom.
