Winter pictures and sports activities in ancient paintings

In order to promote the organic combination of cultural heritage and Winter Olympic events, the "Dream of the Winter Olympics - Winter Painting and Sports Relics Special Exhibition" was recently launched at the Liaoning Provincial Museum, allowing the audience to glimpse the winter picture and sportsmanship in the eyes of the ancients.

A total of 88 cultural relics were exhibited in this exhibition, which are divided into two major units: "Winter Painting" and "Sports Cultural Relics". Dong Baohou, deputy director of the Liaoning Provincial Museum, said that ancient Chinese sports culture has a long history, and ancient sports activities such as polo, archery, hunting, equestrianism, chess, etc., some continue to this day, some have been replaced by other forms, and their cultural relics are an important physical basis for us to understand the ancient sports culture form, and also an important way to deepen the understanding of China's traditional cultural heritage and its connotation.

The Liaoning Provincial Museum's Northern Song Dynasty "Ming Emperor Batting Scroll" depicts the scene of Tang Xuanzong's horseback batting entertainment, and the whole volume is not Shi Danqing and shines. There are 16 figures depicted in the painting, the male wearing a narrow-sleeved robe, black boots and a head, and the female wearing an embroidered long skirt and holding a crescent-shaped club. Two goals are erected at each end of the pitch, each guarded by two men. The rest of the Mercedes struggled to drive the horse on the field to grab the ball.

Hitting the ball is "hitting the bow", also known as hitting or hitting the ball, which is modern polo. For a very popular amusement activity in the Court of the Tang Dynasty, the player rode on a horse and hit a leather solid ball with a club, and the rules were a bit like today's hockey.

Dong Baohou said that the exhibition presents the sports and leisure activities of the ancients to the audience through sports cultural relics, so that people can follow the footsteps of the ancients, feel the traditional sportsmanship of the Chinese together, and deepen the knowledge and understanding of China's traditional cultural heritage and its connotation.
