Power battery market "blowout" Ningde era for five consecutive years to the top of the world's first

Recently, the statistics released by the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance (hereinafter referred to as the "Alliance") show that in 2021, the output, sales volume and loading volume of continental power batteries will increase by more than 1 times year-on-year, of which the proportion of lithium iron phosphate batteries has exceeded 50%, and the growth rate is far more than that of ternary batteries. According to the latest data, NINGDE Times New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "NINGDE Times") reached 96.7GWh in the field of power batteries last year, with a market share of 32.6%, ranking first in the world, which is also the 5th consecutive year that "Ningwang" has won the championship.

According to the statistics of the alliance, in 2021, the production of continental power batteries was 219.7GWh, an increase of 163.4% year-on-year; sales were 186GWh, an increase of 182.3% year-on-year; and the loading volume was 154.5GWh, an increase of 142.8% year-on-year.

Among them, in addition to february production is lower than January, the battery production in the following months is positive growth month-on-month, especially in the second half of the year, the output growth rate increased significantly, and continued until the end of the year. From the monthly data of 2021, the output of power batteries in February was 9.45GWh, and it has increased to 31.63GWh in December, an increase of more than 3 times.

Among the monthly loading of power batteries in 2021, the Spring Festival is the lowest in February, 5.58GWh; by December, the loading volume has increased to 26.22GWh.

Compared with the monthly production and loading data in 2019 and 2020, the power battery market in 2021 ushered in a "blowout".

From the perspective of the installed capacity of power batteries, the market demand for pure electric passenger cars based on personal consumption is the largest. In 2021, pure electric passenger cars used 121.7GWh batteries, accounting for nearly 80% (78.79%) of the total annual installed vehicles.

At present, the most important types of production and loading batteries are ternary batteries and lithium iron phosphate batteries, and the latter has gradually surpassed the former.

In 2021, the output of ternary batteries was 93.9GWh, accounting for 42.7% of total production, an increase of 93.6% year-on-year; the output of lithium iron phosphate batteries reached 125.4GWh, accounting for 57.1% of total output, an increase of 263% year-on-year.

Industry analysts believe that the reason why lithium iron phosphate batteries can surpass ternary batteries is inseparable from policy changes. In the past few years, government subsidies have favored new energy vehicles with higher mileage, and ternary batteries with advantages in mileage have naturally been popular. In the past two years, subsidies have been declining, car companies are facing cost pressure, and lithium iron phosphate batteries have obvious cost advantages.

On February 7, south Korean market research institute SNE Research released the 2021 global power battery installed capacity ranking, showing that the top ten global power battery installed capacity in 2021 are: CATL Times, LG New Energy, Panasonic, BYD, SK On, Samsung SDI, Zhongxin Aviation (AVIC Lithium Battery), Guoxuan Hi-Tech, Envision Power, and Hive Energy.

Alliance data also shows that the Ningde era ranks first in the list, and the loading volume accounts for 52.1%. BYD still ranked second, accounting for 16.2%. Jumping to third place is China Innovation Airlines, accounting for 5.9%.

It is worth mentioning that the top ten lists have changed greatly, and the Panasonic, Ruipu Energy and Lishen Batteries on the 2020 list have all fallen off the list in 2021, replaced by Hive Energy, Tafier New Energy and Sunwoda.

Benefiting from the continuous growth of new energy vehicles, can the supply of power batteries keep up? Market research firm SNE Research predicts that by 2023, the demand for power batteries for new energy vehicles is expected to reach 406GWh, and the supply is expected to be 335GWh, with a gap of about 18%; by 2025, the supply gap will reach about 40%. "The 'battery shortage' mainly lies in the shortage of high-quality batteries by car companies." Industry insiders said that the surge in battery materials has led to the rise in costs of many small and medium-sized battery companies downstream, and at the same time, car companies have gathered major orders in the head battery manufacturers, and they cannot digest all orders for a while, resulting in battery supply.
