Stylistic awareness and spirit of exploration

A Brief Discussion of Li Yongkang's miniature novel collection "Paradise Lost"

Text/Yang Xiaomin

Li Yongkang's novels have a strong sense of style, the plot of the work is complete, the narrative rhythm is good, and the language has its own style. The tone of the work is soft and lyrical, focusing on the emotional rhythm of the pen. The miniature novel collection "Paradise Lost" selects nearly 100 works with a wide range of themes, which can grasp the touching things in life and think into a piece. Art comes from life, life is mostly ordinary and small things, the author can closely follow the pulse of life, find and dig in life, through an ordinary life scene, a small piece of life, cleverly conceived, inadvertently flashing the light of wisdom. Li Yongkang agrees that the criteria for excellent small novels are: imaginative, mythological and allegorical, and vivid and appropriate descriptions. Works without imagination are difficult to make people interested in reading, and the characters are injected with the author's sense of life in order to produce emotional resonance.

Red Star Book Review | Li Yongkang's Paradise Lost: Stylistic Awareness and The Spirit of Exploration

An automatic electric kettle had a little fault, the owner disassembled and installed it still leaking, had to go to the street to find a repair shop. The master repeatedly prevaricated and ridiculed, and the reason was nothing more than a clever name, and more fees were charged. Faced with the heavy cost of repair and the cost of buying a new pot, the protagonist pondered: "Is it repair or not repair?" I really had no idea. "The Book of Repairing Pots is concise in writing, paying attention to the tension of language and the ambiguity of the title. Good at thinking, in the imaginary space of a broad life, focus on the city. An ordinary small thing, written in waves and meanings, reflects a kind of helplessness and ridicule of a certain social phenomenon. Such an unfounded dilemma in life, how can it be more than a small "pot repair"?

"Life is Beautiful" faces the child's young desire to learn, starting with the enlightenment education from the recitation of the psalms, changing the fate of the first from broadening the horizon, which is novel and unique. Doing so may not change the children's survival dilemma for a while, but it can awaken the seeds of life that are silent in their hearts. Because a life with ideals and love of life is the most beautiful vision. The works are soft and lyrical, the text is simple, and the emotional rhythm of the pen is paid attention to. This article was selected as "Successful Reading Expansion and Improvement : First Grade of High School" of "Successful Reading Expansion and Improvement • First Grade of High School" "Approved by the Shaanxi Provincial Primary and Secondary School Textbook Approval Committee in 2007", and since 2003, it has been selected for 19 consecutive years in primary and secondary school Language Reading Questions, and has been included in nearly 100 kinds of anthologies. "Earth Restoration Company", "Visiting Prison", "Small Novels about Small Novels", "A Lawsuit That Will Not Arise", etc., show the author's rich imagination, new themes, unique expression techniques, and the artistic orientation of the sword in structure. The delicate logical combing that flows in the text is full of speculative colors and humanistic spirit.

The protagonist of "Twelve Years Old" is a twelve-year-old teenager whose mother asks him to go to the city to visit his sick and hospitalized father. The teenager arrived on a long journey, and Dad had been discharged from the hospital to return home. The psychological portrayal of teenagers on the way to the city is delicate and conveyed: the excitement before leaving home, the confidence and curiosity when they first go on the road, the exhaustion and anxiety after a long journey, and the grievances of returning alone, which seem real and credible, and it is easy to resonate with the emotions of readers. The depiction of the scenery and the shaping of the characters are integrated: the small flowers and grasses in the eyes are like being washed in water, and the people are sleepy and tired halfway through, "The road is curved and straight, straight and bent, as if there is no end." "The first time I went out of the door, I went into the city again, which can be described as a big thing in the heart of a teenager. Presumably, the writer has a deep life experience, and the reading is full of life, and the character image is ready to come out.

Li Yongkang's short fiction works pursue calmness, low-key and introvertedness, and belong to the thinking writer. Works such as "Hero", "The Old Man and the Bird", and "The Tragedy of the Erhu" are handled in parallel with rationality and sensibility, and are good at absorbing the creation methods of other genres, taking into account the coordination and unity of the content and form of the work. Therefore, the sense of innovation embodied in many of his works can make us taste a strange freshness. "Red Cherry" was selected as the "National Primary and Secondary School Textbook Examination and Approval Committee (2005) Preliminary Examination and Approval of Compulsory Education Curriculum Standard Experimental Textbook" in the second volume of "Language".

In 2013, Li Yongkang won the 6th Golden Sparrow Award for Small Fiction for his 10-question masterpieces such as "The Blind man and the Thief", "Reincarnation of Life", "The New Shou Plant Waiting for the Rabbit", "The Cry of the Tree", "The Sound of Flowers Blooming", "Blue and White Porcelain", "Bridge Death", and "There Is Such a Day". The jury believes that Li Yongkang is an experimenter in the style of low-key small novels. He does not pay much attention to the accident of the ending, nor does he intend to create a sudden change in the plot, but pursues to hide the creative intention quietly in the aesthetic blank and superficial narrative. He uses literary artistic brush and ink to calmly and meticulously describe the original ecological life, and carefully shape those ordinary characters with a strong sense of realism. He basically does not use ordinary small novel techniques to tailor life, but boldly opens up the artistic imagination and constructs a modern allegorical text of small novels, showing the multiple possibilities of innovative development of small novels.

Yang Xiaomin, a native of Northern Henan, is a contemporary writer, critic, and advocate of the genre of small novels. He is the author of "A Hundred Schools of Contemporary Small Fiction Writers" and "Small Novels are Civilian Art".

Li Yongkang is a member of the Chinese Writers Association, a member of the Chinese Poetry Society, a director of the China Miniature Novel Society, the deputy secretary-general of the Chengdu Writers Association, a creator of the Chengdu Literature College, and a member of the 13th, 14th and 15th CPPCC Committees of Wenjiang District, Chengdu. He is the author of 6 novels, including "Red Cherry", "Legend of China", "Paradise Lost", and reportage "Looking for a Happy Garden". "Red Cherry" has been selected as a primary school "Language" textbook, and 14 works have been selected for the national middle school and college entrance examination language mock examination papers, 70 works have been selected into more than 200 anthologies such as "Chinese New Literature Department", and 7 works have been translated into English, Japanese and Russian. He has won the 5th Golden Furong Literature Award, the 6th Golden Sparrow Award for Small Fiction, and the First Prize of Sichuan Provincial Nursery Rhyme Collection and Selection.
