The UK is pushing arm to go public in London, valued at £30 billion

It was reported last month that Nvidia was quietly preparing to abandon its acquisition of Arm because it was too difficult for the deal to pass scrutiny by regulators in various countries. Especially at the end of last year, after review and evaluation, the US Federal Trade Commission believed that Nvidia had the means and motivation to "stifle the next generation of innovative technologies" after acquiring Arm, and damaged the competition in the global market in terms of intelligent driving assistance systems, data processing centers and Smart NICs, as well as arm-based cloud computing services, giving Nvidia a heavy blow. If Nvidia ultimately decides to abandon the acquisition of Arm, it will also be required to pay SoftBank a fee of $1.25 billion under the agreement.

Although the news has been circulating for some time, and the possible causes and results are also consistent with many people's expectations, NVIDIA officials have not yet expressed their position on this. Recently, there have been media reports that the United Kingdom is currently promoting arm listing on the London Stock Exchange, at least in part related to the acquisition of Nvidia, hoping to keep Arm in the UK in this way.

In fact, Arm has previously said that if the transaction with Nvidia is slow, it will consider an IPO, which has always been a backup for SoftBank and Arm. Industry insiders in the UK estimate that Arm is now worth £30 billion. At present, there are already members of parliament in the United Kingdom who have expressed their position that Arm should be listed in London, not New York or elsewhere, to ensure that the interests of the country and investors are aligned and not damaged.

Nvidia announced last month that it would build a CPU design and engineering team in Israel, ready to hire hundreds of engineers, and perhaps Nvidia has its own backup plan. Since Nvidia, Arm and SoftBank have not yet issued a new official announcement, there may still be various possibilities and are still under discussion.
