Thanks to the establishment of a new battery plant and R&D center, Volvo's electrification strategy will be significantly promoted. It is reported that the new battery manufacturing plant will officially start construction in 2023, and develop new batteries for the next generation of pure electric Volvo models and Polar Star models, it is reported that the annual battery production capacity of the factory can reach 50GWh.
The new battery manufacturing plant, located in Torslanda, Gothenburg, Sweden, has direct access to Volvo Cars' largest automotive plant, providing transportation advantages and greater infrastructure, renewable energy supply pipelines and the use of associated human resources. The northvolt and Volvo Cars battery production joint venture will be one of the largest battery manufacturers in Europe, and Volvo Cars and Northvolt have appointed former Tesla executive Adrian Clarke as the head of the plant.
