However, according to 9To5Mac, AirTags with removed buzzers were found on eBay and Etsy. A product called the Silent AirTag, sold for $77.50, looks the same as a regular $29 AirTag, but has a small hole under the device's battery that disconnects the buzzer.

Both sellers reportedly claimed that the modifications were made for innocent reasons, for example, someone wanted to hide airTags on their bikes so they could track them if they were stolen. However, after the report, the Etsy seller removed the product.

IT House understands that the US state of Pennsylvania intends to introduce new legislation that will make it illegal to abuse electronic anti-loss devices such as AirTags, seeking to prohibit AirTags from being used as locators outside of their intended use.
