According to the interval between the FINA World Championships, the Fukuoka Swimming World Championships were supposed to be held in 2021, but due to the tokyo Olympic Games moving to 2021, and the spread of the new crown epidemic around the world has not eased, it was postponed to 2022. However, after close consultation with the relevant partners of the Fukuoka Organizing Committee, the parties agreed to reschedule the Fukuoka World Championships to ensure a safe and successful match for all participants. Subsequently, the 20th FINA World Championships, originally scheduled for November 2023 in Doha, Qatar, was also held.

The World Championships in the long pool swimming were held twice in half a year, which was the first time in the history of FINA. Since the Paris Olympics will be held in 2024, this means that the Fukuoka World Championships, which were originally held in 2021, have risen sharply in the status of preparing for the Paris Olympic Games.
