According to the China Earthquake Network, a 6.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in the waters near the Japanese island of Kyushu at 00:00 on January 22, with a depth of 40 kilometers. The Japan Meteorological Agency announced that the earthquake intensity in the central and southern parts of Oita Prefecture and the northern part of Miyazaki Prefecture has reached a magnitude 5, and Fukuoka Prefecture has a strong earthquake, and there is still a possibility of aftershocks and related secondary disasters in the future.

On January 22, the Chinese Consulate General in Fukuoka reminded Chinese citizens in the consular district, especially in Oita and Miyazaki prefectures, to raise awareness of self-protection, beware of possible recurrent aftershocks and secondary disasters, and take safety precautions. The relevant reminders are as follows:
