New patent documents 丨Samsung Galaxy dual folding phone with S Pen stand

Samsung has filed a patent for an advanced dual-fold galaxy smartphone with an integrated stylus holder that houses the S Pen. In mid-2021, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 were released as the brand's third-generation foldable phones.

The Korean manufacturer has been working on a completely new design for quite some time. For example, think of a slide-type smartphone with a scrolling display. The company is also working on a double-folding phone with two hinges and three display sections. Samsung Monitors has already shown prototypes of both types of phones last year.

The bi-fold phone can be folded into a Z-shape. This means that one section can be folded forward and one display section can be folded backwards. Over the years, Samsung Electronics has repeatedly filed patents for this type of device. Late last year, LetsGoDigital reported on this Samsung smartphone with reverse wireless charging technology. This time, the company submitted new documents with a complete focus on S Pen. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 is the brand's first foldable phone to support Samsung stylus. Now that the company is able to get the S Pen to work on a flexible screen, it can be expected that the brand's future foldable models will also be equipped with stylus support to increase productivity and creativity. This is especially true for a dual-folding phone because of its larger display area.

On July 23, 2021, Samsung Electronics filed a patent with the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO). On the 27th, a 66-page document entitled "Foldable Electronic Devices Composed of Stylus" was published. A large number of documents show a Galaxy phone that can be folded into a Z shape. When folded, this makes the phone as big as a regular phone, and when unfolded, you get an oversized and wide display for you to use, which makes it truly tablet-capable.

The display on the right side of the unfolded state forms the front display of the phone after folding. On the back of this display section, an incision was made for the S pen. In the middle part, there is also a cut-out. This way, you can fold the phone completely while the S Pen will be sandwiched in the middle. The stylus is also fixed with magnetic force, similar to the Galaxy Tab series. Since the S Pen is fixed with magnetic force, it doesn't fall out when you unfold the phone. This also ensures that the S Pen is automatically positioned correctly when charging, for which a charging coil is built-in. The current S Pen folding version does not require charging, while the S Pen Pro needs to be charged. Therefore, the patented Galaxy phone will also be compatible with the extra advanced S Pen Pro, giving you all the Bluetooth features including remote control.

Users can also remove the S pen by the bottom, removing the S Pen from the bottom does not mean that you have to unfold the phone first, you can take it out or put it back when the phone is folded. The patented image shows that the Galaxy Dual Fold phone has three cameras on the back, with the lower one being a periscope zoom lens. The camera can be used both when folded or when the phone is (partially) unfolded. In addition, an off-screen selfie camera will be used. The document also shows that the Galaxy Dual Fold has a dual battery built into it.
