On January 28, Xiaomi announced in an internal email that Chang Cheng, vice president of the company and general manager of Xiaomi's mobile phone product department, and Shang Jin, vice president of the company and general manager of the new retail department in China, all left their jobs for personal reasons.
In the email, Xiaomi expressed its gratitude to Changcheng for its contribution to the company in the past 2 years, as well as shangjin for its contribution to the company in the past 7 years. Next, Zeng Xuezhong, vice president of Xiaomi and president of the mobile phone department, will concurrently serve as the general manager of the xiaomi mobile phone product department, and Wang Xiaoyan, vice president of xiaomi China, will concurrently serve as the general manager of the new retail department.
According to public information, Shang Jin joined Xiaomi in 2013, first responsible for Xiaomi's interactive entertainment business, and later became the person in charge of Xiaomi's new retail in China. Before joining Xiaomi, Shangjin had worked with Lei Jun, in 1999, Shangjin joined Kingsoft, participated in WPS and game business, served as Lei Jun's technical assistant in 2002, and left Kingsoft in 2005 to start a business.
Unlike Shangjin, who belonged to Xiaomi's early employees, Chang cheng is an executive that Xiaomi has only introduced from the outside in the past two years. At the beginning of 2020, Xiaomi announced that Chang Cheng, former vice president of Lenovo Group and head of mobile business in China, has joined Xiaomi as vice president of Xiaomi Group, responsible for mobile phone product planning.
However, after Changcheng joined Xiaomi, it also had a non-compete agreement dispute with its former owner Lenovo. Finally, in October 2020, the Beijing Haidian District Labor and Personnel Dispute Arbitration Commission ruled that Changcheng would continue to perform its non-compete obligations and pay liquidated damages of RMB5,252,821 for violating the non-compete restrictions, as well as the need to return the non-compete compensation previously paid by Lenovo. However, the outside world does not know whether Changcheng paid the advertising penalty, and if so, whether it was himself or xiaomi.
In the internal email on the 28th, in addition to the news of personnel changes, Xiaomi also announced that the company's entrepreneur plan will add 18 people, so far, the total number of people in the plan has reached 84.
In August 2020, Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi officially launched the New Decade Entrepreneur Program. Lei Jun said that the plan will select 100 young cadres who agree with Xiaomi's mission, vision, values, ability, potential, and outstanding achievements in core positions, give returns similar to early entrepreneurs, and encourage them to draw a beautiful blueprint for the next decade with the entrepreneur mentality and investment.
For the departure of the two, Xiaomi also responded to the 21st Century Economic Herald that as a company, it fully understands and respects their personal wishes, and thanks them for their support and hard work in the past work, and also wishes them a smooth career path in the future. At the same time, Xiaomi has sufficient talent reserve echelon construction, personnel changes will not affect the normal development of business, has a proper business connection. The successors of the corresponding work are replaced by internal personnel, no longer external.
On the 28th, Xiaomi's stock price fell 1.33%, closing at HK$16.26. It fell more than half from its year-old high of HK$35.9 on 6 January 2021.
