The Nintendo Switch became the world's fifth-best-selling console, surpassing the Sony PS1 in sales

On January 27, according to VGChartz's latest estimates, the Nintendo Switch has surpassed the original PlayStation (also known as the PS1 or PSX) worldwide. For the week ended January 15, 2022, the Switch sold 341,662 units, bringing its total sales to 102.81 million units. This also means that the Nintendo Switch officially surpassed the 102.5 million sales of Sony's PlayStat ion (the original generation) and jumped to the fifth place in the historical sales list of game consoles. It is worth mentioning that switch sales include the combined sales of the original Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED.

The Switch's next target is the Sony Play Station 4 series, followed by the Nintendo Game Boy (including the Game Boy C olor), which is currently selling 13.77 million units away from the PS4 (116.58 million units) and 15.88 million units from GB (118.69 million units). This was followed by the Nintendo DS, and the world's number one game console was Sony's PS2, with a total of about 158 million units sold.

Breaking down the Switch's sales, the console has sold 34.67 million units in the United States, 27.22 million units in Europe, and 23.43 million units in Japan. Further segmenting sales in Europe, it has sold 5.21 million units in the UK, 6.11 million units in France and 5.93 million units in Germany. It is reported that the Switch was launched worldwide on March 3, 2017, while the PS1 was launched in Japan on December 3, 1994.
