Intel's strongest processor is better than the M1 Max, but lags far behind in power consumption

According to the latest benchmark data, Intel's latest Alder Lake Core i9 processor has a significant performance improvement compared to the previous generation, but the energy efficiency ratio is still lower than Apple's M1 Max chip.

Macworld selected the MSI GE76 Raider equipped with a Core i9-12900HK processor and scored in the Geekbench 5, with a multi-core average score of 12707, about 4% faster than the M1 Max; a single-core score of 1838, and an Apple M1 Max of 1774, about 3.5% faster.

It is worth mentioning that the test equipment retails for $3999, which is about 1.5 times the price of the 14-inch MacBook Pro (M1 Max chip).

The difference in power consumption is huge, with the GE76 Raider achieving about 6 hours of offline video playback life in tests, significantly lower than the MacBook Pro's 17 hours. During the running of the score, the Alder Lake chip is always at around 100 watts of power consumption, peaking at up to 140 watts. The M1 Max is about 39.7 watts. The GE76 Raider's fan is very loud in any operating condition, which is in stark contrast to the MacBook Pro.
