On the evening of January 17, the ice making work for the Winter Olympics in the competition hall of Wukesong Sports Center was completed. From February 3 to February 17, the Winter Olympics women's ice hockey tournament and some men's hockey matches will be held here. From the basketball court to the ice hockey rink, from 2008 to 2022, in the past 14 years, Beijing Wukesong Sports Center has undergone a lot of changes, but there is an unchanging "core", that is, the close connection with sports.

From basketball courts to ice hockey courts

In 2008, Wukesong Sports Center, as the basketball venue of the Beijing Olympic Games, carried the memories of many athletes and basketball fans. In 2022, Wukesong Sports Center will usher in a new identity - the main venue for the ice hockey competition at the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

Wukesong Sports Center is located along the west side of Chang'an Avenue, with a construction area of 63,000 square meters and a capacity of 18,000 people. During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, Wukesong Sports Center will host women's ice hockey and men's ice hockey competitions.

Song Jiaye, deputy director of the Urban Venue Construction Division of the Beijing Major Project Construction Headquarters Office, introduced that the renovation project of Wukesong Sports Center was launched in April 2020 and lasted 8 months, achieving transformation and completion in the same year. This 2008 basketball game venue, the iconic venue of Chinese pop music, after the renovation, achieved a 6-hour "ice basket conversion", that is, the CBA League was still held the day before, and the conversion could be completed on the same day and become an ice competition venue.

So, how is the "ice basket conversion" achieved? In simple terms, the transition between the ice hockey court and the basketball court is achieved by laying a floor on the ice for basketball games. When converting, the ice surface is first covered with a warm layer, that is, an ice quilt, and then the floor for basketball games is laid to complete the conversion.

In addition, the "ice dam" technology has been creatively used to change the original ice rink with a size of 30 meters × 60 meters into a 26-meter × 60-meter ice rink that meets×× the requirements of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

From five pines to ice diamond flowers

From the Wukesong Sports Center, a few minutes walk, you will come to the Wukesong Ice Sports Center "Ice Diamond Flower". As a warm-up venue for ice hockey at the Beijing Winter Olympics, the design of "Ice Diamond Flower" also hides mysteries.

The outer curtain wall of this newly built training hall is like countless falling snowflakes, and at night, the scene of the ice and snow world is presented in the change of light and shadow.

According to reports, the exterior design of the venue comes from the snowflake pattern, and the façade of the building adopts the grid curtain wall system, and the diagonal grid is 45 ° crossed, and the snowflake pattern is composed of geometric shapes. The treatment of the grille curtain wall forms a multi-level spatial effect, which makes the appearance of the building more subtle, and while ensuring the aesthetics, it also plays a role in shading and energy saving.

In the design of the curtain wall, the designer also applied rich colors to the "ice diamond flower". The grille curtain wall is composed of five colors, and the distribution and positioning of the five colors are calculated through digital technology, and fine grouping is processed.

In order to present the visual effect of snowflakes falling in the sky at night, the outer curtain wall adopts the design of hidden lamps and lanterns, which is combined with the curtain wall process to achieve the effect of seeing the light and not seeing the lamp. Through the technology to achieve precise control of each lamp, the formation of snowflakes falling dynamic design, depicting the night poetry of the mood.

The relevant person in charge of the center said that the refrigeration system of "Ice Diamond Flower" also uses a large number of energy-saving materials, which can save more than 40% of the comprehensive energy consumption compared with the refrigeration system of the same building, and then better practice the concept of running the Green Olympic Games.

In addition, in order to facilitate the passage of athletes, the Wukesong Ice Sports Center also has a special passage underground to connect with the competition venue, so that athletes can quickly shuttle during the game.

From the Winter Olympics to the whole society

Song Jiaye introduced that the renovation project of Wukesong Sports Center, in line with the principle of green, sharing and scientific and technological transformation and upgrading, on the basis of meeting the needs of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games, makes full use of new technologies, new concepts and new materials, and has achieved a qualitative leap in the energy saving and consumption reduction, comprehensive and efficient utilization of venues, and the environment for competition viewing.

It is understood that the venue has built a new electric telescopic grandstand system, which can meet the needs of basketball, ice hockey, figure skating, concerts and other venues, and meet the viewing needs of different events and cultural activities.

The venue also focused on the transformation of existing lighting facilities and display systems, the indicators of the lighting system can reach the level of HDTV ultra-high-definition broadcast, to meet the requirements of ultra-high-speed camera playback; the display screen meets the high-definition standard, with live synchronous live broadcast, wonderful moment capture, race information broadcast, timing and scoring statistics, advertising broadcast and other functions, greatly improving the viewing experience.

Here, it will also become a universal venue for three events, including ice hockey, short track speed skating and figure skating, which is the first time in China.

It is understood that after the Winter Olympics, Wukesong Sports Center will realize the transformation of winter sports projects and summer sports projects, in addition to continuing to undertake various performance events and basketball games, it can also greatly expand the dimension and breadth of operation, and can undertake ice hockey, short track speed skating, figure skating and other ice events.
