At the beginning of the new year, in the Village of Fangfang in Donghe Town, Dongfang City, Fu Yu, the municipal inheritor of the Li ethnic spinning, dyeing, weaving and embroidery skills, is busy: spinning cotton threads from island cotton with white flowers, and then using plants such as sumu, wild chestnuts, and false blue indigo, according to the needs, it is rationed, fermented or steamed, and then the cotton thread is dyed into brown, red, blue, black and other colors. Under Fu Yu's skillful hands, these colored threads slowly weave exquisite and gorgeous patterns on the waist loom... On the other hand, Fu Yu's daughter Fu Huili is using Li Jin for cultural and creative design, innovating it into earrings and bracelets, hoping to let Li Jin enter more people's lives through fashionable and practical design.

At the "China Non-Genetic Inheritance Population Research and Training Program - Hainan Province 2021 Li Jin Skill Training Class" held not long ago, Fu Yu and Fu Huili's identities are a bit special: they are both mother and daughter, teachers and students, carrying out the relay of Li Jin's skill inheritance.

For thousands of years, spinning, dyeing and brocade weaving have been essential skills for Li women. The brilliant Li Jin is the crystallization of their diligence and wisdom, and also shows their superb skills in the use of plant dyes. Fu Yu, who was born in 1971, lives in an environment where the elders weave Li Jin.

"When I was a child, I often saw the elders weaving colorful patterns on tube skirts, tunics, and turbans, and the beautiful patterns made people very fascinated." Fu Yu said that at that time, she would tear the banana leaves into thin strips and weave them to play, or connect the leftover threads woven by the old people and try to weave patterns. Subtly and subtly, the young Fu Yu mastered some of the basic skills of Li Brocade weaving.

However, with the development of society, the art of li brocade weaving is gradually moving away from people's vision. In order to rescue, protect and inherit the Li Brocade craft, in 2005, the Li Brocade weaving technique was included in the provincial intangible cultural heritage protection list; in 2006, the Li brocade was included in the national intangible cultural heritage protection list; in 2009, UNESCO approved the "Li traditional spinning, dyeing and embroidery skills" to enter the first batch of intangible cultural heritage list that needs urgent protection, becoming the world intangible cultural heritage.

"In the past, the relevant government departments opened a Li Jin skills training class in the town, and I did not miss a class, I just wanted to learn these skills well." Fu Yu said. Slowly, some companies began to place orders, and Fu Yu, with the skill of brocade weaving, had additional income from farm work and odd jobs.

In 2014, Fu Yu began to deeply restore the most traditional Li brocade. Out of her love for brocade and her excellence in craftsmanship, in the next 5 years, she followed the village grandmother to plant cotton in the mountains, collect plants as raw materials to learn dyeing; use the clay pot to cook dye, cotton thread is more colorful, add cowhide to cook together, and the dyed cotton thread is more tenacious...

It may be that Fu Yu has a relatively high level of understanding, once learned, the old people also have no reservations about her, poured their hearts into teaching, after several years of in-depth study, Fu Yu will learn and understand the Art of Dyeing and Embroidery of Li Jin.

Now, whenever she had time, Fu Yu would go to the Oriental Vocational and Technical School to teach the children the art of Weaving Li Brocade; she often gathered women from her hometown to learn and exchange the craftsmanship of Mobil Li Brocade.

Today, Fu Yu is a representative inheritor of municipal intangible cultural heritage, a arts and crafts artist in Hainan Province, and the second batch of "Local Talents in the South China Sea" of the "South China Sea Series" talent cultivation plan of Hainan Province...

"These honors make me feel a heavier burden on my shoulders. I have an obligation to pass on the skills of Lai Kam. Fu Yu said.

Influenced by her mother, Fu Yu's daughter Fu Huili has also begun to learn Li Jin's production skills and devote herself to Li Jin's career.

Unlike her mother, Fu Huili took cultural creation as the direction of her career. She attached the woven Li brocade pattern to the silver bracelet or wrapped it around the earrings, becoming an ornament with strong Li characteristics, which made people shine. In her view, only by paying better attention to practicality and fashion, Li Jin can be accepted by more people.

"I also plan to shoot a short video to record the real Li Jin weaving skills, and let more and more people pay attention to Li Jin's intangible cultural heritage skills through the Internet platform." Fu Huili said.
