A representative project of the national intangible cultural heritage of Yunnan Province

Meaning "dancing" in Chinese, it is a folk dance of the Pumi ethnic group, which is mainly spread in the villages inhabited by the Pumi ethnic group in The townships of Tongdian, Hexi, Lajing, Jinding and Dian in Lanping County, Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture. Because the rubbing is accompanied by a four-stringed "Bipper" and a sheepskin drum beats the knot, it is also known as the "four-string dance" and "sheepskin dance".

It is said that a long time ago, a handsome Pumi boy met the fairy on a starry night, and the fairy died in the morning of the first (2) day, and the young man created a set of rubbing dances in order to commemorate the fairy in his heart. There are many forms of rubbing dance, such as bowl dance and crotch bump dance. With the accompaniment of chopsticks, men and women who are interested in each other will express their love for each other by bumping their crotches.

The Pumi people rub and dance

The Pumi people have retained the characteristics of the ancient art song, dance and music trinity, and people dance happily in a circle or several circles during the activity, guided by the music played by the four strings and sheepskin bags. In the dance, the dance steps are rich, and the dancers sing loudly in the space of the dance music change, leading the crowd and combining tension. Pumi rubbing is divided into two types: open rubbing and closed rubbing, of which open rubbing is a self-entertainment dance, which has been continuously improved in the long-term development process, becoming an important form of daily self-entertainment of the Pumi people, and has also become an indispensable main content of large-scale activities such as Pumi communication and celebration. Pumi rubbing is not bound by time, place or number of people, and participants can intervene in the dance at any time. Dancers can start one after another, or some people can dance, some people sing while walking, and then dance after singing. When dancing, the force direction of the stomp is the vertical relationship, the force direction of the step is the horizontal relationship, the forward deviation when retreating, the upper body and the lower body direction are opposite, the front is leaned back, and the upper and lower body directions are also opposite. The speed is generally medium. When the speed is slow, the dance steps are light and fluttering, as if the breeze rhythmically pulls the dress. When speeding up, the dance steps are rough and powerful. There are twelve sets of dance steps in the open rubbing that have been passed down to this day, and their formations include several kinds of hand-in-hand single, double and semi-circles, generally in the direction of returning to the clockwise direction, but also in the clockwise direction. When enclosing a double circle, you can jump in the same direction and in different directions.
