According to the WeChat public account of the Political Work Department of the Southern Theater, the spokesman of the Southern Theater made a statement on the US warship's unauthorized intrusion into China's Xisha territorial waters. Colonel Tian Junli, spokesman for the Southern Theater, said that on 20 January, the US guided-missile destroyer "Benford" illegally broke into China's Xisha territorial waters without the approval of the Chinese Government, and organized naval and air forces in the Southern Theater of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to follow up and monitor and warn them to drive away.

Colonel Tian Junli pointed out that the US act of seriously violating China's sovereignty and security is another ironclad proof that it has vigorously pursued navigation hegemony and created militarization in the South China Sea.

"We solemnly demand that the US side immediately stop such provocative acts, otherwise it will bear the serious consequences of the unexpected incidents caused by this."
