Former British intelligence chief Richard Dillov confirmed in a recent dialogue show that one place in Australia plays a "very important role" in the West's surveillance of China — the Pine Gap.

According to the British "Guardian" reported on the 10th, Richard Dillov, the former head of the British intelligence agency MI6, declared that the Pine Gap surveillance base in central Australia is "very important" for the West to collect intelligence about China's activities.

In response to the former British intelligence chief's blatant "secrets" of Western surveillance of China, even the Guardian reported that intelligence officials are usually "tight-lipped" about the exact use of the U.S.-Australia joint facility, but the former MI6 chief said Pine Gap is "a complex listening station, well, there's a lot more to it than that."

"You (Australia) have installed a lot of equipment in Pine Gap, partly from the NSA , and it's very important because it's an interception intelligence site," Dillov said in a podcast conversation with former Australian Foreign Minister Bishop.

"Because of its geographic location, it is strategically important to both the U.S. and Western alliances." The Guardian said Dillov clearly confirmed Western interest in Beijing's activities, saying that Pine Gap, a military base near Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, "is vital to the West's information about China."

But Dillov said, "I don't think I should elaborate on its actual role [of Pine Gap], which would have seemed flippant," declaring, more broadly, that Australia has "very advanced interception capabilities".

The Guardian also reported that the presence of Pine Gap in Australia is controversial from time to time. Snowden's previously exposed large number of NSA documents show that the facility "plays an important role in supporting (U.S.-Western) intelligence activities and military operations."

The ABC reported in 2017 that the facility — formally known as the Pine Gap Mutual Defense Facility — provided detailed geographic intelligence to the U.S. military. That has prompted some legal observers to question the site's potential role in supporting deadly U.S. drone strikes in the Middle East.

In the dialogue podcast, Bishop, who served as Australia's foreign minister from 2013 to 2018, said Australia's current relationship with China was "strained," the Guardian reported. She also played up the so-called "threat" posed by China's rise, declaring that Australia and other countries in the region "are seeking more, not less, American leadership." She also claimed that very few countries are "willing to live in areas where China has the final say."

Dillov, for his part, declared, should "develop a new security mechanism to deal with China's existence as a superpower."

Regarding the episode, the Guardian said that the podcast co-hosted by Dillov and journalist Julia Macfarlane was recorded last December, but officially aired on February 10.

In fact, it is no secret that the United States and its allies are spying on other countries. At the end of May last year, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin pointed out in response to relevant questions that facts have repeatedly proved that the United States is recognized as the world's number one "matrix" and a major secret stealer, and its secret theft targets include not only competitors, but also the United States' own allies, which can be called a "habitual offender" master of large-scale and indiscriminate eavesdropping. Even U.S. allies have expressed "unacceptable" this. Ironically, such a big secret stealer in the United States actually claims to maintain network security under the banner of "cleaning the network." This fully exposes that the United States is false in safeguarding network security and suppressing competitors; it is false in safeguarding the security of its allies and true in safeguarding its own hegemony. Wang Wenbin said that we call on the international community to jointly expose and resist the US cyber bullying behavior and not to make a wedding dress for the illegal acts of the "Matrix".
